well, those figures are probably skewed because people who use android are smart enough to root their phones, install a custom rom, disable the tracking stats and get their apps for free. apple users only know how to do things that apple tells them and allows them to do.

Thanks and agree with you on most points, except your first sentence which I think should read instead:

The net results of the web usage data is, that is sold products and those in use:
>60% iOS products sold/in use that correlates with 77% profits.

We know how many iOS iPhones are sold that account for 60% of web usage. Then how many Android phones account for 30% ? Thats the number that’s “closer to reality” for the number of Android phones really sold.

Well, most people are not tech savvy. The iPhone is easy to use, app rich, and just plain simple. Android, while having a lot of customization options, is just plain hard to customize, for many.

Sorry to say this, but should we really still consider the iPhone revolutionary? I’d say the 5 was more of a minor upgrade than revolutionary.

Just a thought. What if Android numbers are flat out inflated?

Web usage data can’t lie.

60% Apple – Manufactured Sold and Used.
30% Android – Used – Rest are made and recycled or just flat out lies.
10% Everything else – Manufactured Sold and Used.

We know Symbian, BBOS, Microsoft devices fit into the 10% range without having to lie about it.

We already know Google and their device manufacture have no ethics regarding telling the truth. Maybe they are like Media Vision, and making it all up. I say an FTC investigation is in order.

Wait, wait. I don’t know about that. If this speculation is correct, Google, developers, and most handset makers aren’t making much off of Android; it is not a profit-center.

In fact, Google may start losing money having to maintain new versions, the app store, and carrier-relations. If Google is just interested in profits, they will always have a dump-Android button. I think their main reason for keeping it around is to keep trying to make a serious profit. It hasn’t happened yet.

It’s marketshare lead hasn’t given Android a single advantage that matters, as it trails Apple in profits, web browsing, developer interest and developer payout. The “usage statistics” belie the “sales (shipped) statistics”… You can’t hide THOSE numbers in your profits/losses when someone looks at the FACTS.
Try as you might Google, I’m not convinced Android is dominating ANYTHING, least of all the significant statistics like margins, profits, usage, patent security, royalties, total cost of ownership, etc.

Well the one thing that Android has managed to do is keep the Monopoly Anti-Trust dome sayers at bay. The more cheap Android phones that are sold the more iPhones Apple sells down the road. The fact is the Android phones are being sold to feature phone users and iPhones are being sold to Android upgraders. So, Android gets people into the more expensive data plan bill with a cheap free phone and then once they have to renew their contract they upgrade to an iPhone.
So it’s a win win for Apple.
