Apple seeds developers with iOS 6.1 beta 1 with Map Kit framework for third-party apps

Apple today seeded developers with iOS 6.1 beta 1 which, according to our sources, includes:

Map Kit Searches

The Map Kit framework now lets you programmatically search for map-based addresses and points of interest. The MKLocalSearch class initiates a search for map-based content using a natural language string. In other words, you can enter placename information or portions of an address and have Map Kit return search results that match the information you provide. For example, searching for the string “coffee” would return the location of local coffee bars along with information about each one.

iOS 6.1 beta is available for the following devices:

• iPad Wi-Fi (3rd generation)
• iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (model for ATT)
• iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (model for Verizon)
• iPad 2 Wi-Fi (Rev A)

• iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G (GSM)
• iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G (CDMA)

    1. The biggest thing is Apple getting the data in there. I’m sure they’re working on it, but this isn’t related to that.

What this is basically is Apple taking MapKit and allowing devs to search against Apple’s map data rather than the framework using Google’s GMM map data as it did previously.

  1. Does this mean that iOS6 is coming to the original iPad?

Now THAT would be great news!

After all, the iPhone3GS was introduced BEFORE the iPad, which is still running iOS 5.1.1

  2. For the last year and they only promise as I am a user of I pad 3 sorry guys but your update 6.1 is zero still maps not giving correct Infos to a popular places like KFC and Hardee’s, bad battery, one attachment only allowed in one email, hang like hell, for no reason sometimes Internet never works until you restart ipad, no YouTube, no flash support, I really think this will never be fixed and really my next machine will be Samsung cause my brother use it and it is really waaw
