Microsoft’s beleaguered Nokia Lumia sales fall 28 percent, North American sales cut in half

“Nokia’s had a challenging year transitioning to Windows Phone to power its range of smartphones, but Lumia sales have been slowly and steadily increasing quarter-on-quarter,” Tom Warren reports for The Verge.

“Nokia has just announced its Q3 2013 financial results today, and the company has revealed that just 2.9 million Lumia devices were sold in its recent quarter. Nokia previously shipped 4 million Lumia devices in its last quarter, making this a sharp decrease of 28 precent,” Warren reports. “Nokia’s North American mobile device volumes also dropped too, by 50 percent quarter-on-quarter.”

Warren reports, “Nokia doesn’t break out the individual device sales in North America, but the company sold just 300,000 compared to the 600,000 figure from Q2.”

    1. Spoken like a true Cult member! Apple does the same thing. Nokia 920 is having the same effect that the old tired looking iPhone 5 m(what a piece of junk) had on the 4S.

Stay tuned iSheep the next 12 to 18 months will make history as the most significant turn of fortune any public greedy company has ever experienced! Apple Inc. = Cult

      1. I think you’re missing the point. The Lumia on the market today is running WP7 and can’t be upgraded to WP8. This happened previously with Microsoft where Windows Mobile 6.x was dead ended along with their ‘Kin phones.

iOS on the other hand has a history of supporting older hardware that’s really quite stellar. For example the latest iOS, version 6, runs on the 3GS which came out 3 years and 4 months ago. Given the release cycle, it’s likely you’ll see at least 4 year support in iOS.

Having product on the shelves that won’t support an already announced OS coming in a month, isn’t a smart strategy for boosting (or maintaining sales).

  1. What was the strategy behind announcing the Lumia 920 months before pre-orders and pricing were announced?

“Hey, customers, your current Lumia 900 is outdated, and won’t receive an update to Windows 8, and a Lumia 920 with Windows 8 will be in stores about four months from now.” Well WTF do you think is going to happen to sales in the mean time?

  2. The drop in sales is only because everyone is waiting for the next Lumia running Windows 8. I can see the long lines that will be forming at every MS store. (the lines won’t be because of the free tickets to .)

  3. Hahaha.
The phone in the picture is YELLOW. The hideous OS is a vomit-inducing mix of blue/orange/purple/red/green.
Are there really 300k people in the US with such bad taste?!
The article is interesting but read the idiotic comments from the plebs flocking to defend the failure are hilarious.
