For iPad wannabes, it’s about to go bad and get ugly

“Remember the pundits who laughed off the tablet form factor and called them toys? No? Neither does anyone else,” John Kirk writes for TechPinions. “They were as wrong as wrong could be.”

“Tablets are the second coming of the personal computer. Apple knows it. Microsoft knew it long ago but they were unable to successfully seize the moment and capture the treasure for themselves,” Kirk writes. “Google is only just now realizing the importance of tablets.”

Kirk writes, “The company or companies that win the tablet wars win the future of computing. The fight is only just begun but like a gunfight, the battle may soon – and very suddenly – be over… The world of personal computing is in flux. It’s a ‘truel’ world and for some tablet maker – and possibly for several tablet makers – it’s about to go bad and get ugly.”

  1. No one had the smarts to make the technology work. Apple did. That is why its important for Apple to protect their IP. Yet these courts are allowing the blatant, slavish, copying of Apple products. Shame on you and shame on you idiots for supporting these thieves.

    1. Hear hear!

However I think if Apple has the balls it can make a lot out of the UK court decision that forces Apple to say Samsung did not copy because it is NOT COOL enough.

Several people of this board had really good idea’s on that. Maybe they can remind us.

    1. But the Truel gunslingers must provide with widest and best possible implementation of data hardware and services to their consumer customers.

There is only one of the 3 that I see being able to do this effectively now, which is why they are dominating and building up incredible consumer loyalty for the day that ‘clones’ become more equal with the leader.

  2. “Tablets are the second coming of the personal computer. Apple knows it. Microsoft knew it long ago but they were unable to successfully seize the moment and capture the treasure for themselves,” Kirk writes. “Google is only just now realizing the importance of tablets.”

Apple knew it a long time ago- the Knowledge Navigator

  3. Apple lost, get over it. Apple would be mocked for reviving the “I’m an iPad, I’m a Galaxy” commercials. Samsung couldn’t care less about the “cool” factor. It’s all about making money.

        1. How much money are they really making now that they are losing Apple as a customer? ($ iPhone/Ipad copies – $ lost iPhone/Ipad manufacturing = $ real profit)

      1. Making uncool copies worked wonders for Microsoft not so long ago. Not everyone operates from the presumption that
‘cool’ automatically equals ‘better’… or even ‘good’ for that matter.
Look how ‘cool’ the emperor’s new clothes were?

Mark Zuckerberg operates from that insipid ‘cool’ ethic,
if that doesn’t give you some clue…

  4. This war is what makes the iPad mini so essential. Apple would be probably be okay just making the iPad cheaper as they leave previous generations on the market, but the mini gives them a whole new front to attack. It’s a good sign that Apple will remain nimble and aggressive in the trenches.

  5. I use my ipad to run my business.

I guarantee you the ipad is no toy.

And regarding the blatant copying, I don’t give damn about all the other brands copying apple.

Using Apple products is the ONLY choice to make.

    1. You isheep are all the same… You buy a quality built product that works like its supposed to and makes life just a little funner… Ha! Keep following the herd, me, I like buying something @ top dollar, only to find it is worth less than half in about a month of ownership, and doesn’t really work properly.. I love the struggle. Baaaa, isheep! Baaaa!

      1. Hey listen iDipshit no one said you can’t settle for third or fourth rate alternatives. Apple products have the highest return resale rate. Thanks for the disingenuous commentary! You can go back to your van down by the river now and rejoin the Microsoft or Android herd.

      2. Sometime putting the “/s” is helpfull, with all good intention lost in translation occurs with any heated subject.

Nice point, and for those of you who missed the Sarcasm in “Wp8!” post, please read it again it was really well put together and not attacking Apple in anyway.

  6. In a little known, but massive 30 year study by Harvard, the results can now be revealed:

” We invented Microsoft in an attempt to determine how many stupid people roam the earth. After 30 years the correlation between stupid and Microsoft users is definitive, a perfect one to one match”.

  7. as far as I’m concerned, the surface is still vaporware until released and MS has pushed back release dates in the past. I haven’t tried the nexus, but have tried the samsung 10.1 for a week and it’s not really a close fight, because the badness of the android interface is magnified in the tablet form factor… running clunky even on a high powered processor.

    1. “pre-order” sales for Microsoft’s Surface RT sold out yesterday.

As P.T. Barnum wisely observed, “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

I propose that Apple work overtime ensuring that Microsoft and Google don’t claw back market share by undercutting price. The sales numbers of Surface vaporware should be a wake-up call. As we all know, the Walmartization of America has brainwashed two generations of consumers to obsess over initial purchase price rather than lifetime value. Apple must counteract this insidious short-term outlook and aggressively market the value that its higher-quality products offer.

  8. The analogy is poorly thought out.

    1) Apple (Blondie) isn’t looking for profit (treasure)… they’ve already found it while the other guys are still digging in the dirt.

    2) MS (Angel Eyes) is like a gunslinger who shoots their partner in the back as soon as it suits their purpose.

Finally, FWIW, MS didn’t win the PC war. All MS won were some battles. The war really isn’t over yet.

  9. Tablets are the second coming of the personal computer. Apple knows it. Microsoft knew it long ago…

HA! Microsoft knew shit. That’s why their touch devices languished in OBSCURITY for 10 years.

ONLY Apple knew it. Only Apple did it right. Then the dimwit parasite companies followed along for the ride, including Microsoft.

  10. The company or companies that win the tablet wars win the future of computing. The fight is only just begun

    I call SHANANIGANS!

There continues to be NO FIGHT IN SIGHT. Apple KILLED the day the iPad was released. The bomb crater flattened all would-be competitors and no one has recovered.

Q: Where is an actual/factual competitor with the Apple iPad?

A: There is none. None are on the horizon.

That fact shouts VOLUMES about the rotted state of business in the world.

Amazon and Google have to SUBSIDIZE the sales of their wannabe OtherPads. HAHAHAHAHA! 😆
