“Alongside the smaller iPad, Apple will debut a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, according to a consistently reliable source at a high-profile U.S. retailer,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“The new 13-inch MacBook Pro will be sold in two configurations, with differing processors and storage, and will be available for purchase soon after introduction,” Gurman reports. “Like with the 15-inch MacBook Pro lines, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display will be sold (at a higher price) in addition to the current non-Retina display model.”

Nothing to see here once you lay your eyes on the 15″ RD! No need for the 13″ form factor. I own a 13″ MBA and a 15″ MBP RD and…. the 15″ is simply perfection.
No need for the 13″ form factor?! Are you nuts?! For you, maybe. Let me tell you a little secret: The whole world does not revolve around “you”!
I’m torn, an iPad mini would be appealing – especially as I have an iPad 1 which is beginning to show its age – but I also like the e-ink readers for actual reading, so if I was going to get a smaller device I would likely want a Kindle (or similar) then keep a fullsize iPad. Shame they can’t have e-ink and LCD screens in one somehow.
Be very carful there my friend. My daughter (teenager) broke 2 inside 3 months (and keep in mind she has a 3 year old iPod touch she constantly carries with her that has not a crack).
After doing some research (and talking to people socially) I found her experience is far from unique. Apparently the e-ink screen are quite fragile internally and are subject to failure of the case is flexed much at all (something the newer thinner kindles plastic cases do very easily)
BTW Sold the 2nd replacement on ebay and the daughter got a nook tablet (she wanted a small carry along e-reader and felt the iPad was just too big) and it has been reliable. (no problems so far (1 yr old))
I hear yah. Much as I don’t want to spend money on Amazon products in principle they do have some nice readers. Their Kindle app took a giant step backward (and why I preferred it over Apple’s iBooks) when it used to remember the brightness setting independent of the regular brightness setting so you have to set it each time you go in and out of the app. Sucks! Why? WHY???
I think the new iMac is coming soon. But as a professional user I need the new Mac Pro. Hopefully that isn’t too far off. But this event will be about the iPad mini. I’m sure the new Retina 13 inch MB Pro will be nice but compared to the iPad mini it’s just an afterthought.
Me too! Mac Pro though as Tim Cook stated won’t be out until sometime in 2013. I’m guessing sometime in the spring. Hopefully it will have been worth the very long wait and they will not let the Mac pro languish like this again.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro, like its larger sibling, will be devoid of user accessible components. If you want more RAM or a larger drive pay up suckers, Apple will be more than glad to overcharge you.
It cost only $200 to upgrade my MacBook Pro Retina to 16 GB RAM. And one can choose the internal SSD capacity based on using an external drive to supplement storage space (I chose 500 GB SSD). Now I’ve got a really powerful computer with a great display.
Remember how expensive 16 GB RAM used to be? And how your laptop couldn’t accept more than 4 GB RAM? That wasn’t very long ago.
