Why go for a date later in the month?” Ewan Spence writes for Forbes. “That could simply be a logistics issue, an area of the software or production that needed a few more days testing to sign off, or perhaps this the plan all along – to gain extra publicity from the earlier date and feed this into the increasing hype around the iPad Mini.”
“The 23rd of October is a very useful date for the success of Apple’s diminutive tablet,” Spence writes. “It’s going to occupy a lot of column inches, covering the launch, reporting on the first few journalists who get review units, discussions over the pricing and the strategy, and that is going to take a lot of the oxygen out of the tech circles. Apple would gain this coverage any point in October, so this isn’t a case of the PR team making sure there are no competing stories. In fact it’s the complete opposite. Apple has rolled up a very loud truck onto Microsoft’s media lawn.”
Spence writes, “Microsoft will be debuting Windows 8 that week, with the initial release schedule for October 26th. It’s fair to say that Microsoft is putting a lot of effort into marketing and getting the word out – and with Cupertino’s invite, they’re not going to be the focus of the story… While the clash with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 is intriguing, the biggest clash is going to be against Microsoft’s own hardware launch with the Surface RT Tablet… In the days after Microsoft’s announcements, it’s likely the iPad Mini will go on sale, with record numbers, huge queues, and the digital column inches flooded once more with glowing reviews of the latest Apple product.”

I won’t carry the standard iPad with a MacBook Pro, but will take a iPad Midi as a useful complement.

I think denial of the iPad Mini is in respectful deference to Steve Jobs view on smaller tablets but Jobs was well known to change his mind and I believe he had changed his mind on this too. It’s true there won’t be an iPad Mini named as such but with a different name no doubt.

Regardless… mini me iPad is too late in the game. iPad users are just fine with their iPads and probably have walked by all 7″ tabs without even blinking an eye. Propaganda aside by the folks who get paid to positively precursor Apple product launches this mini me iPad will simply nestle in as part of Apple’s offerings and yes maybe at the cost of iPad sales.

See, I don’t get this mentality. If Apple destroys Android you will get less features on iOS from here on out. iOS’s notification system wouldn’t be nearly as good without Android, Siri wouldn’t have been designed to compete with Google Voice Commands (and Google Now wouldn’t be as good if it didn’t have to compete with Siri as well). Everyone benefits from 1-upping eachother in the industry. It’s always been this way, so all this teamApple teamAndroid crap is nonsense. Destroying the competition doesn’t help tech progress. Did you know Androif has Floating windows apps now too? Tell me you wouldn’t like to see Apple add that next! How about split-screen like Cornerstone for Android and split-view on Galaxy Note. Android isn’t just for nerds. It’s presently the most popular OS in the mobile world, and there are very good reasons why that’s the case. As an Android user, I hope Apple’s iPad Mini beats the Nexus 7 in sales (due to features), in hopes that Google will once again try to 1up Apple, and vice versa. MS’s Surface was spewing flames, dead in the water, and listing 60 degrees. Any more damage by Apple’s iPad mini is purely incidental.
Year after year, there always some sort of HW parts leaked out prior to every Apple event.
As far as I can tell, there is just one very critical component of every Apple event NEVER leaked out… that’s the huge banners Apple used to hang around the event venue. Am I wrong??
Our local Best Buy has been out of stock on iMacs for a while now, so I’m hoping Apple will make this a multiple product release announcement, perhaps under some common theme such as education needs.
