Apple’s Passbook puts your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. You can add passes to Passbook through apps, emails, and websites from participating airlines, theaters, stores, and more. Then you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.
How to add your Starbucks card to Apple’s iOS 6 Passbook app:
• Update to Starbucks 2.4 via Apple’s App Store
• Sign in with your Starbucks account
• In Starbucks app, at the bottom of the screen, tap My Card > Manage > Add Card to Passbook
• Select Stores > Set a Favorite Store
• Enter a Starbucks (in the U.S.-only for now) and simply check out your iPhone’s lock screen

Immigrate….or wait till Apple gets to you….are you really surprised that an American company puts it’s own citizens at the top of the list when introducing features? Not sure where you are from but US is also Apple’s biggest market. We thank you for supporting Apple’s products but be reasonable. I am sure that companies in your country would do the same….if you had some.

I’m not blaming Apple, I have the passbook app. I’m more disappointed with Starbucks for not updating their Canadian app to work with passbook… But you point still holds
Disappointed. Went to a Starbucks this morning after adding card to passbook last night. Lock screen did not show the card. Had to open passbook. Might as well just use the Starbucks app instead.
Had you added that store as a favorite?You can only add 10 stores for location detection. Given the over saturation o most cities with Starbucks, this seems wise. Otherwise location services would be sniffing for every Starbucks you passed= battery drain. When more passes are in passbook it will become more reasonable to launch that app than each particular Venus’s app.

What I can’t figure out is how to add more to Passbook after you load one card. Now that I have Starbucks in Passbook, I can no longer access the App Store within Passbook. How am I supposed to know who has Passbook enabled if I can’t see that list of companies that are? Any idea?
This appears to be a problem, too much hassle to go into the App Store and search for Passbook enabled Apps.

Too much of a hassle to use Passbook. The idea has some merit in it but the implementation is totally f***ed up.
Going to the App Store dumps you into a generic listing of all apps, not just those that are Passbook enabled. It’s like if you went searching for books in the iBooks catalogue and it dumped you into the general App Store in a sea of apps that are in no way related to books.
This is a similar shortcoming in Newsstand which is why I rarely use it as a magazine search engine. You have to do a search for the magazines you’re looking for in a sea of unrelated apps rather than have it listed in a convenient page where all apps are magazine related.
Another dumb move by Apple – not thought through properly.
1 on both. Passbook is completely useless for me in its current incarnation. What did Scott actually think he was touting during the keynote? He’s got to go.
I *JUST* used this for the first time – I’ve been using the Starbucks app to pay for a very long time, but this was very convenient. When I took my phone out of my pocket, it had the Starbucks I was in on my home screen (I had marked it as one of my favorites when I imported my Starbucks card to Passbook). I simply swiped it to unlock, and my card was there.
It was already quick and convenient, but this is even better since I don’t have to Spotlight search and launch the Starbucks app.
Pretty cool.

Actually even easier than described. I just opened up the Starbucks app, and it immediately asked me if I wanted to add Passbook functionality. Took less than 10 seconds. I am not a huge Starbucks fan, but sometimes on the road, even with 13 coffee finder apps, they are what’s available. And I like their technology deployment.
Passbook is a little disappointing to me. The beauty of Apple is ease of use. So far with passbook, the app requires an explanation of how to use it… yet lacks said instructions. The Starbucks app made adding the card super simple, but the passbook app itself lacks an easy GUI. “What do I do now? How do I add more cards? What other apps work with it?” If Apple really wants to eliminate dependence on Google, they need to ensure their apps don’t require a Google search to figure out.
It worked great for me! I created the account using my main Starbucks card, added a second card that had been gifted to me, added my two “Favorite” Starbucks stores to the account, gave permission to the Starbucks app to use my current location, and everything looks perfect. It sure appears to me that when me and my iPhone are next at one of my two favorite Starbucks stores, I will have an icon on my lock screen letting me get into Passport to pay for my purchase. IMO.
