“An update was delivered yesterday to Verizon iPhone 5 owners experiencing an issue where cellular data would be used even when the device is connected to Wi-Fi,” Jordan Kahn reports for 9to5Mac.
“The carrier confirmed to 9to5Mac in a statement that customers will not be charged for the data, but it looks like the issue is not Verizon-only,” Kahn reports. “We received multiple reports of the same issue from AT&T customers, indicating the problem might be related to iPhone 5/iOS 6 rather than Verizon-specific.”

MacDailyNews Take: If you have a Verizon iPhone 5, make sure you’ve updated to iPhone 5 (Verizon) Carrier Settings Update 13.1. If there is an AT&T issue, expect a carrier setting update for AT&T soon.

Viva la iPhone!

every update… they claim WiFi connection issues. (read the article, they claim iOS 6 plagued with it)
every new iPhone, yellow screens.
same old FUD, new year.
Verizon had this problem, i’d assume AT&T does as well. (like the story suggests)
relax… Verizon stated they will NOT charge customers for the error, AT&T would be stupid to do anything different.
I personally haven’t seen this issue on my ATT iPhone 5 yet.
No issues here on iPhone 4S, none through the Beta’s either. Current usage is @ 600 MB through 16 days (totally lower than normal @ this time in the past for me) using iTunes Match streaming both wifi and cellular with light email, web browsing and the occasional facebook post.
I had this issue in April/May in the Mpls/St Paul metro area. For two months I went from 1.5g usage to 5g. It left as quickly as it showed up. AT&T took care of it with no problem.
Nope, total usage for the month 1.1 gb.
With iOS 6 there is a feature to fall back to cell network if flaky wifi. I think with LTE, it is so much better than most peoples WiFi that the iPhone 5 is just using whatever network is best. Just my Guess on why the iPhone 5 is impacted but non of the 4s that use iOS 6 seem to be impacted
grandfathered unlimited AT&T …… I don’t care
And, what about the location services in IOS 6 with iPhone 4?
Leave it on and the battery drains in a few hours!
C’mon Apple!
I wonder if this may be partially to blame for the alleged extra battery drain iOS 6 users are reporting, since cellular communication uses far more battery power than wifi.
I feel I’m seeing the same issue with iOS 6 on my AT&T iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Anyone else?
My Day One AT&T iPhone 5 has been perfect since I got it. 😃
During the first nine days after updating my iPhone 3GS to iOS 6, my iPhone used three times its usual cell data. Turned off cell data.
