Obama reverses position on intelligence briefings, drops Apple iPad for live meetings

“When Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen and the Government Accountability Institute reported that President Obama has attended less than half of his Presidential Daily Briefs (PDBs) on intelligence, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney called the findings ‘hilarious,'” Wynton Hall reports for Breitbart. “The next day, U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American staff members were murdered.”

“According to Mr. Carney, Mr. Obama doesn’t need in-person briefings because the president gets the written version on his iPad: ‘He gets it every day, okay? The President of the United States gets the presidential daily briefing every day. There is a document that he reads every day when he is not — well, he always reads it every day because he’s a voracious consumer of all of his briefing materials,'” Hall reports. “But now, in an apparent 180-degree reversal, the White House official calendar shows that for the last four days Mr. Obama has ditched his iPad and has instead opted for the live briefings.”

  1. Obama needs as many intelligence briefings as possible.

Still it won’t matter much after January 20, 2013. It won’t take too much intelligence for Obama to hire another ghostwriter to pen his memoires.

        1. Many, if not most, of these polls OVER-sample Democrats and UNDER-sample Independents. Polls more reflective of the *actual* political leanings of the voting public show Romney even or slightly ahead – effectively, a dead heat.

        2. exactly.
CBS had a poll last week, +13 Dems… and only sampled 5% independent.

rasmussen and gallop just released the latest likely voter polls, Romney ahead.

registered voter polls… worthless. Likely voter is the only way to go, and it’s the ONLY way polls are taken in the last 2 weeks of an election. wonder why?…

        3. Fox has Obama up 7 points in Ohio. Don’t trust polls? No suprise. Many don’t trust experts, science, or facts either. Many don’t think we landed on the moon, but they’re idiots.

Enjoy another 4 years of “socialism.” And PLEASE, let the conservative response to be to go further to the right.

    1. Glad you are so confident. Polls prior to his latest gaffe show Romney trailing 37% to Obama’s 52% (11% undecided). After the idiotic statements by Romney at a private fundraiser nearly twice as many voters are less likely to vote for Romney as those who are more likely. I said he’d self-destruct and he’s performing as expected.

      1. I don’t want either of these praisey-dential nincompoops who’re bound and determined to destroy the country but I’m afraid you might be right about Obama’s reelection chances. Everyone is so under a microscope these days and people are all too eager to spin every little move. We will spin ourselves into destruction.

        1. Obama rescued us from the Republican Depression that destroyed 40% of Americans’ life savings under Bush, the unelected president and war criminal. Where are the WMDs?

      2. What gaffe? Speaking the truth is never a gaffe.

        What poll is that, MSNBC?

Let’s use a real poll, proven to be accurate in past presidential elections:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday, September 19, 2012:

        Mitt Romney: 47%
        Barack Obama: 46%

Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

        http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

        1. “Speaking the truth is never a gaffe.”

It is if you’re a politician trying to convince moderate, politically central, undecided, or disillusioned-with-Obama voters that you’re not *that* far from their ideology.

        2. How many of you really know the constitution? “We The People” seems to be lost thought for the last twenty years.

Were on a course of losing all our freedoms. We can be terrorists in a airport, we have our goverment using wiretapping laws against citizens, we have forced Healthcare. We have the FED raising inflation, making money out of thin air, causing our dollar to become near worthless. Don’t worry folks, the money comes from us. The government was supposed to be real small. The states should be the ones that help our citizens along with private institutions. Everytime the government gets involved, the prices go up and it hurts us all.

Unfortunately, their is no real conservative in the elections. If you youtube Ron Paul and really listen to what he says, hou might learn something. The media has shut him down, but you watch people. We have strayed so far fromour constitution, which made us a great nation, to something that will be soon raping all our citizens.

        3. The one part of the constitution that gets me is in the 2nd amendment, where it says “…shall not be infringed.” You know the one I’m talking about. I’m not a gun nut (never replaced a shotgun and rifle that was stolen from me 15 years ago), but I’m amazed at how much this amendment has been infringed even though it says there in black and white, “shall not be”. If people (as in the majority) don’t like it they should just change it, not violate it.

It means all the other words in the constitution are equally worthless.

        4. The truth? You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!

The 47% number is a lie. In the first quarter of 2011, the Wall Street Journal reported that 26 percent of the population lived in a household where at least ONE PERSON was on Medicaid, as well as 16 percent for Social Security, 15 percent for Medicare, and 15 percent for food stamps. What is true is that 47% of Americans live in a household where SOMEONE gets one of these government benefits, educational grants, or unemployment benefits.

Romney’s statement that 47% of Americans receive government entitlements and consider themselves victims is a misrepresentation…a lie. I receive social security because I am retired and I paid into the system for 50 years, starting when I was 15 (lied on the application about my age to get the job). That means Romney is counting me and the other 5 people who live in my household as deadbeat, unemployables who consider themselves victims while sucking on the public teat. How do you think that plays with the 3 of us who’ll be voting this time? The only victimization I’m worried about is Romney and Ryan taking away the benefits I’ve EARNED.

        5. You do know that Obamacare is causing medicaid and Medicare to close right also if you actually read who obamacare will cover you find if your over 60 you don’t qualify! So who’s the one taking away your benefits? It’s just being done under the guise of giving you a new “better” one.

        1. …The opposition in this year has already imported into this campaign a very interesting thing, because it is foreign. They have imported the propaganda technique invented by the dictators abroad. Remember, a number of years ago, there was a book, Mein Kampf, written by Hitler himself. The technique was all set out in Hitler’s book – and it was copied by the aggressors of Italy and Japan. According to that technique, you should never use a small falsehood; always a big one, for its very fantastic nature would make it more credible – if only you keep repeating it over and over and over again.”-Campaign dinner address of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (the Fala speech)

          http://www.wyzant.com/Help/History/HPOL/FDR/

        2. Bringing Hitler into the picture is a sign of absolute desperation.

When the yearly interest on the deficit is greater than the income tax paid that year, you are in big trouble. When most of that interest is paid to Communist China, you’re fucked. Good luck paying for China’s new military.

        3. Arent you the lying hypocrite and scumbag that actually brough Hitler up in comparison to Obama, that my post was a reply to?!

MDN deleted your ofensive Hitler accusation and placed my answer post as a stand alone. You know that and are now pretending that Hitler was brought up by me. You are a scumbag in the first degree just like Carl Rove and kkk company – Shame on you !

    2. What a non-article. Trying to turn the fact that Obama attends more meetings now, against him. The indirect effect of “ditching” the iPad is no news either, or should the president read the briefs again after attending a meeting in person?

    3. WhileRomney, who was on welfare as a child promoses he will not care about 47 percent of the American people who don’t pay the same Income Tax that he doesn’t pay! What next? Gas chambers for the poor!

      1. Actual context: Romney doesn’t “care” to waste time courting their votes because they’re unreachable with his message of tax cuts because they do not pay income tax.

Libs resort to lies because that’s all they have.

        1. “There are 47% of the people who will vote for the President no matter what. Who are dependent upon government. Who believe they are victims. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”
Even if Romney’s message in the moment was that he’s not going to court those people’s votes, it’s an appalling and dismissive generalization of a group of people who include serving military members, retired military members, war veterans including the maimed ones from Bush’s wars, retirees, working poor people plus the long term sick.
No lies here. Except from republicans trying to explain this away.

      2. Wrong again, thanks to your blind ideology. Romney was stating that 47% of the people are Obama supporters and will vote for Obama regardless of anything Romney does, so he isn’t wasting time trying to sway them to vote for him. Try a little context.

        1. Huh. Funny how you republican’ts want context now. When Obama used bad phraseology in his “you didn’t build that” speech, the true context was nowhere to be found from your lying mouths.

        2. Context:

“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the President no matter what. Who are dependent upon government. Who believe they are victims. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”

    4. First of all they are HIS briefings – he can’t miss them because the people come to him. He wasn’t missing a briefing, he was getting it in written form.

Second, before GW Bush, presidents did it this way. Then, the “I don’t like to read” president decided to do them all in person. Now, if Obama can actually read and comprehend, its a bad thing?!?!

    1. With the entire US press as the propaganda outlet for Obama, willing lie, suppress information and otherwise shit on journalism ethics.

Oh don’t worry, they’ll have anther October surprise in store. Like the last one that pushed Ohbummer in…

They were willing to trigger the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression to get that bozo into the White House.

Even though Clinton cause this financial crisis, hey we’re able to pin it on Bush.

At President Clinton’s direction, no fewer than 10 federal agencies issued a chilling ultimatum to banks and mortgage lenders to ease credit for lower-income minorities or face investigations for lending discrimination and suffer the related adverse publicity. They also were threatened with denial of access to the all-important secondary mortgage market and stiff fines, along with other penalties.

The threat was codified in a 20-page “Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending” and entered into the Federal Register on April 15, 1994, by the Interagency Task Force on Fair Lending. Clinton set up the little-known body to coordinate an unprecedented crackdown on alleged bank redlining.
The edict — completely overlooked by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and the mainstream media — was signed by then-HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, Attorney General Janet Reno, Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, along with the heads of six other financial regulatory agencies.

“The agencies will not tolerate lending discrimination in any form,” the document warned financial institutions.
So this is where it all started. In 1994. When the government pressured lenders to qualify the unqualified. To put people into houses they couldn’t afford. Or else.

      /

      1. Pretty good summary, as far as it went.

Don’t forget the aiding and abetting Barney Frank in the House and Chris Dodd in the Senate did to pressure Freddie and Fanny to process hundreds of billions of the resulting “subpar” mortgages and pass them on with huge commissions to Wall Street brokers who later got all the blame when the scheme collapsed.

      2. More fact challenged Republican Bullshit- I’m calling BS and I didn’t vote for Obama or Clinton.
1- The financial crisis was not caused by a single event and loans to poor families was not even the largest portion.
2- You date the cause in 1994 and the financial collapse began in 2007. In the intervening time- from January 1995-January 2007 the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and add the White House from January, 2001.

By the way- here’s your boy doing what you blame on Clinton.
        http://youtu.be/kNqQx7sjoS8

  2. Daily briefings should be live with input from experts in those areas. You cannot ask an iPad questions about national security. Clearly this man is an embarrassment. But I fear that we will have him for four more years. We deserve better.

  3. Oh please! A few days ago Obama decided to get “tough” on the Chinese by complaining that they subsidized their auto industry. LOL! Now Obama tries to change at the last minute after years of skipping security briefings. What a phony!

    1. It’s Gallup.

And Gallup is polling registered, not likely, voters which makes the poll all but meaningless.

      I told you people already:

President Romney and Vice President Ryan. Get used to it.

  4. You all realize that both candidates/parties suck right? I just don’t understand people blindly believing either candidate is good and the other is bad. They both being their own set of bad problems to the table. How about we get rid of 2 party system and vote over Internet on issues?

    1. How about we just skip straight to the Civl War II instead?

The choice is clear: Big Bloated Wasteful Nanny Food Stamp Government headed by a neophyte vs. Smaller Leaner More Efficient Government headed by a proven jobs creator.

Cast ye votes San Fran and Cambridge, we’ve got more than enough to overcome you lovers of waste and subsistence living.

President Romney and Vice President Ryan. Ahhh…

      1. Huffing paint is no way to go through life sir.

Romney is a jobs OUTSOURCER a VULTURE capitalist. Peoples lost jobs, benefits, pensions, and their homes so he could turn a quick buck. Those are facts, thats what he did, nothing is going to change that. This is good for America? I think not.

      1. Romney is a dick for all seasons, even republikkkans can’t stand him.

Dont forget to bring yur sorry face back here to wipe our asses on after the lanslide that will reduce the rebulikkkans to a minority party for a long long time.

        1. kkk in the word republican. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t for the fact that the Democrats started and ran the KKK for decades. President Truman was a card carrying member.

You can run but you can’t hide scumbag

        1. Thank you for giving ammunition to the “aptitude test” requirement for voter id cards.

“Makers vs takers” What a load of crap, it most cases the makers are also the takers. This divisive rhetoric is destroying America.

They are using your own foolish pride to manipulate you pal. They don’t care about you, they just want you to believe you can do it and side with them. They aren’t opening the gates for you, they do not want you in their clubs. They want to own and control you while they fleece you and the rest of the country.

        2. and after they claimed to release that FULL recording…. oh except the 2 minutes that are missing.

oops… even MJ had to admit they lied.

          and honestly, Mitt’s not wrong.

        3. 1-Breitbart couldn’t be believed if they said the sun rises in the east.
2-Earlier poster claimed Mother Jones admitted something that they plainly did not.
3-Get ready for 4 more years of President Obama, primarily due to the batshit crazy right wing.

        4. ahh yes, can’t believe anyone other than MJ… even though they are proven wrong.

and yet again proving you can’t read, they had to UPDATE their original story… after getting called out on the missing part.
they posted more, which was recorded according to the source of the owner… 2 minutes later.
the fact that MJ had to change their story… admits they were wrong and lied about there NOT being any missing time. even though they KNEW there was…

they didn’t “say” they lied…. they just proved to everyone that they knowingly did not tell the whole truth.

and yes, prepare for 4 more years of a Republican President.

Notice how the whole story isn’t even around anymore?… cause outside you left wing nut cases, it’s a non story. and also due to the Socialist admissions of Obama also on tape… which the media and the left does not want to talk about…

which the WH HAS acknowledged this IS Obama speaking, NBC is still trying to verify lol.

and since you despise Breitbart 😉

the WSJ and the LA Times know it exists…

    1. Are you kidding?

President Obama said that he believes in redistribution. Mitt Romney and I are not running to redistribute the wealth. Mitt Romney and I are running to help Americans create wealth. Efforts that promote hard work and personal responsibility over government dependency are what have made this economy the envy of the world. — U.S Rep. Paul Ryan, 9/19/12

Obama really believes in what I’ll call a government-centered society. I know there are some who believe that if you simply take from some and give to others then we’ll all be better off. It’s known as redistribution. It’s never been a characteristic of America. There’s a tape that came out just a couple of days ago where the president said yes he believes in redistribution. I don’t. I believe the way to lift people and help people have higher incomes is not to take from some and give to others but to create wealth for all.

This is how America works. It does not work by a government saying, become dependent on government. Become dependent upon redistribution. That will kill the American entrepreneurship that’s lifted our economy over the years. The question of this campaign is not who cares about the poor and the middle class? I do. He does. The question is who can help the poor and the middle class? I can. He can’t. — Mit Romney, , 9/19/12

      Obama’s “America” is this:

The number of Americans on food stamps hit a record high in June. Those receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program numbered 46.37 million. Fully 15 percent of the American population is on the program. There were fewer than 31 million people on food stamps as recently as November 2008, but an aggressive effort by President Obama’s administration has helped build participation, with the total increasing by 44 percent since the president took office in January 2009.

      http://bottomline.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/05/13682742-report-15-of-americans-on-food-stamps

Obama wants dependency on the government because that guarantees him and his party votes.

        1. Actually, they’re even dumber than that. They vote AGAINST their own self-interest and FOR the interests of their manipulators.

“This is how America works. It does not work by a government saying, become dependent on government. Become dependent upon redistribution. That will kill the American entrepreneurship that’s lifted our economy over the years.” — Mitt Romney, 9/19/12

I wonder how Romney squares this with his mother’s report that as poor immigrants from Mexico, she and Romney’s father were on welfare for a while.

        2. How does he square it? The answer seems obvious. on welfare for A WHILE. a while, NOT their entire lives, not passing on an attitude of entitlement to their children and grandchildren, so they could become 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation deadbeat do-nothings.

Everyone needs help or falls on hard times at some point. Many are lucky to have the support of friends, family, or religious institution without the need for Government intervention. No shame in that for anyone involved.

The problem is the many people who decide that doing nothing and getting everything for free is a great way of life. For these parasitic scum bags, nothing is ever good enough, and everything is not enough.

Zeke, I sure hope Romney wasn’t referring to your hard earned contributions, or that you and people like you who have worked their entire lives consider themselves victims. To be fair to Romney’s statement, I do know people on the government dole who do complain that it isn’t enough, that its not fair, and that they are entitled to more. They DO consider themselves victims, but are to damned lazy to go get a job or do anything about it. They, unlike you, haven’t worked hard and contributed for any years, much less 50.

I’ve only been in the workforce for 37 years, and have many, many to go until I can consider retirement. I have no doubt that Social Security will not exist when I retire, and with the Obamacare and other hope and change initiatives, I may NEVER retire.

        3. If Romney is elected and you swallow that crap about Social Security not being there for you, and you let him dismantle it, as he and his running mate have said they will do, you will have voted against your own interests. You think Romney cares about people? What Romney cares about is pleasing corporations that now pay half of all SS taxes. The employee pays half and the employer pays half. The employers have manager to get themselves a 70% tax cut over the last 40 years, so these days their SS contributions on behalf of their employees is a large chunk of their total taxes. If they can convince their employees (you) that SS is a bad idea that won’t benefit you, and you let them kill it they make out like bandits. If, on the other hand, SS taxes are applied to earnings up to $250K instead of the current $110.1K then SS is solvent at 100% benefits for the foreseeable future.

  5. Too little, too late … The moron should have gone to all briefings … anyone who has gone through such briefings, at any level, realizes they are like reading “tweets” and to get to the core of an issue you must be there to ask questions.

Of course we find out tonight that the attacks were indeed pre-planned and carried out by Al Qaeda Terrorist, and there was virtually NO protection for the people killed. A disgrace!!!

  6. Since when is Rasmussen a trusted poll? It is always a right leaning poll. And as such is basically the only one that has Romney ahead. However those national polls mean nothing because it is all about electoral votes. And right now Obama is up 5-7 points and more in all the important swing states OH, VA, FL. Most electoral college prognosticators show Obama sitting at 332 electoral votes. Since you need 270 to win this is what is referred to as a good old fashioned ass whipping. What is more telling though is none of these polls have included the big Romney 47% error. And drop drip drip the nightly revelations from other parts of that fund raiser. It is death by a thousand cuts. So where is Romney this week? He has until late tonight not campaigned at a single public event. Face it that dog don’t hunt. If it hit you upside the head would you still spew your right wing leaning Rasmussen poll? One more thing, Rasmussen also showed McCain ahead until the election day when it suddenly changed it’s polls to accurately reflect the election results. So yes Rasmussen can be very accurate, but it always leans to the right until the very last poll.

  7. Guys for goodness sake grow up!!! This is not a political forum!!!! And who cares who uses what method to receive briefings. You know BOTH candidates love their iPads and are constantly involved via all the tech forums. Just take it easy and keep it to Apple related info PLEASE!!! And if you really want to do some hating look into Steve Jobs personal life! He had very strong political leanings but that doesn’t make us love/hate him or Apple any less. Keep it simple! And just like Apple Inc. stay neutral!!

  8. Obama = big government + socialism
Romney = a return to Buch stupidity, and a f–k the general public attitude.
The answer, vote for a third party candidate the elections are a joke and government is the enemy of main street America.

  9. wow what a non story.

more importantly im surprised there are so many republicans on this site who use apple products. apple owners are by majority democrats – so i think the trolls our out.

    1. Romney did NOT say that people deployed to Afghanistan were victims. He was wrong to broadly lump the 47% who effectively don’t pay income taxes into the victim class, but he is right that many, many people who did and will vote for Obama want government to take care of them or give them more free stuff.

  10. MDN, I suggest that you DELETE this entire article and comments.. ALL OF IT. People, the article is about the President getting briefing on an iPad or in person. And yet pretty much all the posts are strictly political.

Vote, vote left, vote right, don’t vote……. how about we restrict our comments to the articles????? This is a Mac site, not a political left or right site.

Or does EVERYONE miss that fine point??? Shame on most of the commentors here.

  11. BTW, you can always tell when Obama has been busted because he tries to laugh off the question and looks away and down from the reporter.

Back to Mac news, the headline is misleading. Obama didn’t “ditch” his iPad, he just decided (after being caught) to start attending his daily intelligence briefings. I’m sure he still uses his iPad for games.
