“WebOS is dead, and HP has long been without a smartphone offering as a result,” Andrew Grush reports for Mobile magazine. “Could the time for a comeback to the smartphone market be at hand? HP’s CEO Meg Whitman has recently spoken up about the matter and says that HP is working on something for the future.”
“While HP’s CEO didn’t give us that much information, it seems we can fill in the blanks for ourselves thanks to a new GLBenchmark discovery,” Grush reports. “It seems that a new HP device has shown up under the code-name Bender with HP branding as well. This device is a Qualcomm S4 dual-core Android smartphone.”
Grush reports, “We also know it is running a 1.5GHz on its cores, and that it features a 1366×720 pixel resolution and version 4.0.4 of Android.”

MacDailyNews Take: Given that HP’s latest PCs are knockoffs of Apple Macs, we expect if HP’s phone ever sees the light of day, it’ll look something like this:

Android. How imaginative.
Bender over and tell her to grab her ankles. This would be Meg’s last act as CEO.
thanks for the idea
Great! Now I have an unshakable image in my mind for the rest of the day!
Can’t it be the image of Yahoo’s CEO Moist Moaning Mayer instead of Widebody Wicked Whitman?
Hysterical MDN take. Nicely done.
The perspective on the HP logo is different from that of the display. Just saying…
That’s because it’s doing a 3-D spin-around. 😉
Since Androids are now touting 5″ screens, this one should come with a 7″ screen and a set of thumb extenders.
And a man-purse accessory to carry it since it won’t fit in a pocket.
Bender? So HP’s new phone is gonna smoke cigars, guzzle alcohol, and steal wallets?
NO. Bender means it’s going to look like Motorola’s 2006 vintage Flip phones.
You know, back in the days when smaller was better.
I’m going to wait for their eighth attempt … LRRR of OMICRON PERSEI 8
Looks like they’re going for the alcoholic demographic.
Even that ugly HP logo can’t mar the beauty of the iPhone 5.
A shame; they should have stuck with WebOS.
Yes, this makes me sad. WebOS could have actually been a worthy competitor.
Bender? I hardly know her!
*rimshot*
It’s a “bender”?
That’s what she said!
😉
Hmmmmm an android named Bender. I wonder if it will have the same sort of personality as the one from Futurama?
I doubt HP will have much; if any, success bringing out a smart phone. They had an OS that from what I had read was a decent OS and had GREAT potential. They dumped it after their failures with it. Now they are going to android? Screwed up bad with no chance of overcomng it!!
