“China Mobile is not going to be selling the iPhone 5, at least not anytime soon, says Nomura Equity Research in a report out of Friday,” Reinhardt Krause reports for Investor’s Business Daily.
“‘Contrary to some media reports’ suggestions, the initial version of iPhone 5 does not work on TD-LTE technology (4G technology adopted by China Mobile),’ Nomura analyst Danny Chu wrote,” Krause reports. “”‘As the new iPhone is not compatible with China Mobile’s 3G (TD-SCDMA) or 4G (TD-LTE) technologies, it can only operate on 2G networks of China Mobile,’ he said.”
Krause reports, “He says China Unicom will likely sell the iPhone 5 ‘around December.’ Some analysts have claimed chips built into the iPhone 5 have been engineered to support China Mobile’s network, if a deal is worked out. CNBC reported Thursday that an Apple-China Mobile deal was ‘imminent.’ Such a deal could spark iPhone sales in China.”

MacDailyNews Take: Hmmm, “imminent” or “not anytime soon.” Those span a rather wide range of opinion.

“Apple, China Mobile Not Near iPhone 5 Deal?”
Answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge%27s_Law_of_Headlines
So the Apple and China Mobile deal is an 100% uncertainty? Wow, that’s incisive!!
I still think that they’ll add china mobile before the pre iPhone 5s slump in the summer of 2013. The detractors will again say, “it looks just like the iPhone 5!” But the iPhone 5s will break the record of the iPhone 5, as the iPhone 5 will have done to the iPhone 4s, and so on; so it goes. Kerouac!
I’m tech clueless on phones insides but I was wondering..
the phones assembled in China right… can’t they just pop a whazzit 4G thingy for China mobile to replace the other thingy?
@domusdpi
Absolutely! Worse case scenario, just glue on the outside behind the regulator.
don’t be too excited yet. apple will be in a big trouble when they will try to sell. goophone (chinese mobile company) already registered their own design patent before apple released iphone 5. yeah, it’s exactly the same design, and form factor. goophone said if apple will sell iphone 5, we will sue it. what do you think, apple? lawsuit is not that sweet after all. you will get paid back anyway. let’s see how apple will get in trouble. I can’t wait to see that apple will lose the whole chinese market. that will be serious damage for apple.
