“If that’s correct, I imagine Steve is not happy. First of all, he’d be furious about the leaks. Steve liked surprising people,” Lyons writes. “More important, is this really the best we can expect from an outfit that claims to be the most innovative company in the world?”
Lyons claims, “The hardware on the iPhone has been the same for two years, since the iPhone 4 and 4S were virtually identical.”

This is what happens when a company is too cheap to invest in research and development… Android’s market share is now four times that of Apple. Four times! Worse, despite all its bluster about innovation, Apple has become a copycat, and not even a good one. Why is Apple making the iPhone bigger? To keep up with the top Android phones.”
“Apple also has become a copycat in tablets. Jobs once said the iPad’s 9.7in screen was the perfect size, and smaller tablets made no sense,” Lyons writes. “Then the Android camp had success with 7in tablets like Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7, and now Apple supposedly will announce its own smaller iPad in October. Talk about thinking different!”
“Apple got where it was by taking bold risks. Now it has become a company that copies others and plays it safe,” Lyons writes. “A company that once was run by a product visionary now is run by a number-cruncher – chief executive Tim Cook, whose claim to fame involves running an efficient supply chain and beating ever lower prices out of Asian subcontractors and component suppliers… Apple has become the one thing it should never be. Of course, Apple isn’t a copycat. Everybody’s copying Apple, just look at phones before iPhone and at phones today. And, as for a rumored 7.85-inch iPad mini, Jobs often talked down certain tech while Apple was working on it (see: iPods that play video and iPads that deliver e-books, for just two examples). Plus, the screen area of a 7-inch in 16:9 tablet would be dwarfed by a 7.85-inch 3:4 iPad mini. And, can we give the already tired “Tim Cook is just a number cruncher” meme a rest?

Since most polls don’t capture likelihood to actually cast ballots, I’m with you on this much: Romney is probably slightly ahead and the polls don’t show it. I disagree that it’s about political bias (if it is, then surely the same can be said and more so for your numbers, which are coming from Republican polling).

Thanks. Humorous. Went to Dan Lyons blog page. Most of the posters there are either shills, trolls or (and mostly) articulate writers that do not care for much of what he writes.
How he gets paid for his efforts is beyond me.
I must admit that the iPhone does reek of boredom compared to the iPod lines. Notice I said “lines”, plural? iPhone is not gaining the pizazz of the multiple styles, colors and prices that won over iPod purchasers. I think they need to think back to that pizazz and apply it to the iPhone and broaden the product line. There would be the serious business model, an XL model and some fun and funky models for those that want to be more hip. Think of the diversity of Van or DC shoes. Not predicting doom and gloom for Apple and not jumping ship, but Apple needs to go back to its more playful roots of the iPod to help wow and win over successive generations.
We can buy cases in about a million different colors and designs, an option no other phone has. I happen to have about 10, which I use depending on the color or my shoes, etc. How about battery cases (dozens) and millions of other accessories. How many do other phones have?

I still remember Lyons being interviewed after the SJ premiered the iPad. He mutter his usual sarcastic, “ho-hum, frankly nothing special”. It’s so disingenuous of him to use Jobs to gain attention on a day such as this.
I’ve been an Apple user for a quarter of a century, and a serious AAPL investor for over a decade. I’ve had to endure an ever-flowing river of negative stories and opinions about the company, all fueled by envy, partisan hate, and the inability of the competition to match Apple’s genius. Jobs was continuously and deeply criticized by the pundits, analysts, et al, right up until he died, after which they sainted him so they could attack Tim Cook. Every product was a disappointment to them. Other companies disparaged Apple as they copied everything they could, the same way other criminals hate their victims. They very existence of Apple’s superior products is an accusation of limited intelligence of people like Gupta. He’s made to feel inferior predictably lashes out rather than accept reality. The iPhone 5 will be a guide to just how well Jobs’ successors are doing to continue the company’s brilliant ascendence and whether shameful theft of IP by competitors can allow them to continue to ride close behind. I hope to see another feature set which includes something I could never have imagined but absolutely have to have. Thank you Apple for making my work vastly more powerful and my household vastly more affluent, and may your naysayers continue to suffer in their mistakes.
We lead parallel lives, m159. I retired this month. My Apple investments over the last 10 years have made that possible. I’ve heard the same tired haters beating on Apple for all that time, while I was raking 5000% profit on my shares. People like Lyons, Dvorak, Gupta, and pat can’t play the game, so they spew hatred from the sidelines. All of their statements are constructed of half-truths, misinformation, and jealousy.
I was forced to use a Nokia, then a Blackberry at work. They were useless for doing anything but making calls and reading an occasional email, if I was really desperate to read it. Once I got a personal iPhone the others stayed on my desk all the time, useless pieces of crap.
You don’t know what will happen until after the event, remember last year when there were tons of leaks for an iPhone 5 with all new design? And it ended up being the iPhone 4s? So shut up until the iPhone 5 is shown to the world

The iMac has not changed all that much since 2007, and it’s still beautiful and the best machine out there. There are a lot of products that have looked the same for many years. Looking different for the sake of looking different is stupid. Good for Apple if they think they have “hit perfection” in their design and are sticking with it.
Unfortunately, RIM also thought they hit perfection until the iPhone came along. Here’s hoping Apple learns from RIM’s mistakes……..

As a longtime Apple user, and now recently a modest stockholder, until recently I’ve been jumping on furniture and screaming stop posting and leaking everything about the iPhone 5 and i Pas Mini.
Then there was that Olympic apple ad that pretty much everyone like me detested. I’d hear the comments that those commercials weren’t made for me, the longtime fan, but for those who maybe still unaware of Apple… And yes, there are those who still don’t know what an Apple Genius is or that the stores are for Apple users to find solutions.
If you apply that thought to the leaks, it’s not that far of a leap that these leaks aren’t to disappoint or spoil the present ion for us but maybe to stay continuously in the news even when others release new products who wish to be rivals.
Take Amazons new devices? I wager to bet no one in your office that’s not a techie can tell you the specs of that device? However, these so called leaks gave been abundantly present on mainstream media. From your CNN and FoxNews, to the local news anchors and morning talk shows.
This media hype that’s been generated by loose lips have helped Apple far more that hurt. Die hard fans will buy anyway, but Apple is getting the attention of the masses and burying the competition who can simple wish to get this much free press, social buzz, and organic excitement from an unreleased product.
When we get the new iPhone it’ll still be the talk of the town, and the competition still won’t have the coverage in the press.
From a marketing stance, these rumors don’t piss me off nearly as much as they do from a fanboy stance. It’s a risky marketing approach but a valid one. Either way, all eyes continue to be on Apple and my stock is doing well.
