Apple today announced the new iTunes for Mac and PC featuring a completely redesigned player, seamless integration with iCloud, and a stunning new look for the world’s most popular online music, apps, TV and movie stores. The new iTunes is coming in October and will feature a dramatically simpler and cleaner interface that keeps your favorite iTunes content at the forefront. With iCloud integration, your music, movie and TV purchases made on any of your iOS devices or computers is conveniently displayed in your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, available anytime you want them. The redesigned iTunes Store®, App Store℠ and iBookstore℠ have been rethought to make buying your favorite content on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC simpler than ever.
“We created iTunes because we love music and we’re going back to our roots with an incredibly clean design that keeps your music at the forefront,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in the press release. “The new iTunes works seamlessly with iCloud, always keeping your entire library at your fingertips, and we’re adding great new features that make listening to your music more fun.”
The redesigned iTunes features a full-window interface on your Mac or PC that’s simpler and cleaner, always keeping your favorite content in front of you. The new library view makes it easier to view your music, TV shows and movies, allowing you to click on the category of content you want to browse and that’s all you will see. The expandable album view allows you to see track listings for an individual album, while letting you continue to browse your music library. The new search feature searches across your entire iTunes library, including music, movies and TV shows. The re-imagined MiniPlayer makes it easy to control your music with a small tool bar, you can skip to the next song or search for something new to play—all without having to open your library. Up Next is a fun new way to see what songs are coming up and queue songs or albums you want to hear next.
With iCloud, all of your iTunes purchases are in the cloud and can be accessed from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC or Apple TV. The new iTunes features seamless integration with iCloud, which automatically puts all of your purchases into your library on your Mac or PC, regardless of which device you used to make the purchase. iCloud also remembers where you are in your favorite movies or TV shows no matter which device you’re viewing on.
The redesigned iTunes Store, App Store and iBookstore feature a clean design that makes shopping easier and more fun. Featured content is showcased right at the top and easy-to-browse shelves serve up popular music, movies and TV show choices. You also have a preview history that shows you all of the music, movies and TV shows you’ve sampled. iCloud keeps your preview history across all of your devices. Additionally, users can preview 90 second clips of songs while continuing to browse the store.
The new iTunes will be available in October as a free download.

Right below Coming Soon it says Coming in October in the orange triangle. It will probably be late October as well.
honestly, i would have had them wait until october for the big event and launch everything at the same time and give enough time for the channels to ramp up inventory and polish their delivery.
I clicked on the “Coming Soon” button and am downloading iTunes 10.7 now. I guess Apple likes me. 😛

iCloud integration…greeeaaaaat…being one of those people whose iCloud mail hasn’t been working for the past 24 hours, I’m not exactly excited. BTW, I haven’t seen an MDN post on this yet….odd.

my email worked fine.
i just got my first email in over a day and a half – sent around noon yesterday. even though it was only affecting about 1% of the people, i would have thought that one of the mac-centric sites could at least have had some mention of it. this was a pretty serious outage for people that depend on their mac email account

Ok, I’m having a senior moment that I hope someone can help me out of… ICloud integration? Don’t get it. I can already see what I’ve purchased from any device by clicking on “Purchased” in iTunes. What is going to be different?
Do you know that your other iOS devices can access all of your iCloud media from almost everywhere? They match your purchased music (from CDs) and all the stuff you bought from Apple.

I can already access and see all my music on any device, no matter which device purchased it. And Match pushes all my non-iTunes music into iCloud already so that I can get it on any of my devices.. What does “seamless integration with iCloud” mean that’s different than the integration I already have?
Please just make it a pure native OSX application, and not whatever weird hybrid windows/mac beast it is now. And please, get the device syncing out of there.
I notice that they aren’t referring to it as iTunes 11 – just “the new iTunes”. Sounds kinda familiar…..
Look… It’s not being released till October because they need to release the new AppleTV and iPad Mini first before it comes out. Don’t ask why, just understand this is Apple and everything they do if for a reason.
They always release things later because somehow, it gets people salivating , talking, anticipating . . . and finally lining up online or at the store on the day of actual release. It’s a savvy marketing ploy that has worked wonders for Apple.
Except for things that begin shipping the day they’re announced…
The delay is likely to accommodate new products, and to not dilute the iPhone/iPod announcements today.

I’d pay Apple for a Pro version where i can remove all traces of iCloud, Store, Twitter, Genius, Ping, Facebook, and such social crap. Apple seems to forget about the majority of us who have large collections ripped from (legally purchased) CDs and DVDs and who aren’t interested in “matching” or “tweeting”.
Why isn’t the iTunes media store merged with the App store instead, making the iTunes music player interface truly clean?

Thanks, Truth, i may start to look at these alternatives. Historically, other software titles were absolutely horrible at library management. Perhaps now they have caught up.
I sincerely hope I can turn off all the eye candy in that simplified, clean interface. I don’t use iTunes to look at pictures of album art, I use it to organize playlists!
For those upset about features they don’t use nor need:
Why not just use what you want and stop complaining that you can do tons more but don’t want to?
There is so much wrong with iTunes at this point, that I will take whatever incremental upgrade they push out hoping basic functionality is repaired.
How come you can’t select multiple playlists at one time to move them into a folder without the help of an AppleScript? How come you can’t use undo to correct awn error caused by the violated HIG in the first place?
I could go on, but what’s the use?
If there was an alternative media browser that worked with my iDevices, I would switch right away.
