Beleaguered RIM’s BlackBerrys hemorrhage shelf space, mindshare among carriers

“With Apple’s next generation iPhone in the offing and new Windows Phone 8 and Android handsets headed to market in the weeks ahead, Research In Motion’s forthcoming BlackBerry 10 devices are no longer top of mind for RIM’s carrier partners — if they were ever top of mind at all,” John Paczkowski reports for AllThingsD.

“And while carrier executives are publicly voicing their support for RIM — as Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam recently said, no one should write off RIM until BlackBerry 10 has shipped — in practice they’re taking a more pragmatic approach to RIM’s faltering position in the smartphone market,” Paczkowski reports. “They’re beginning to give it less retail shelf space.”

Paczkowski reports, “That’s what Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette is seeing anyway. He says that recent retail checks show not only a significant decline in BlackBerry inventory, but shelf space pressure and lackluster sales as well.”

  1. MDN once again posts a comment that is extremely ignorant and disrespectful towards a pioneering company that set the standards for the wireless communications industry from which Apple successfully launched itself into. As well, 80 million users will stand by RIM as they bring OS 10 to market.

Come on MDN show some class.

    1. Unfortunately there is precious little forgiveness in the market now for those who fell behind and those who ignored the competition, the trends and kept on doing what they were doing. Many pioneers drop by the wayside if they do the unforgivable – fail to innovate instead of resting on their laurels. There is NEVER time to rest.

    2. Hmmm, just like Kodak who’s bosses lack of foresight drove the company underground and now they lose their jobs.

Yea, Yea to RIM who had a good idea and then turned into salesman rather than keep trying to make it better. Remember what Steve said about when a company quits trying to make things better…. it gets run by salesman. then dies.

      Just a thought.
