The most interesting thing is that everybody says that the Spectre is ugly. If that´s true and it is a ripoff then the iMac also is ugly. When it comes to dates don’t forget Compaq. and yes Apple also byes company, like Siri, like Fingerprint (multitouch).I think you fanboys should be proud that everybody is inspired by Apple. Everybody wants to follow the leader? Like in every other market, like in every other products. But Apple seems to be a holy cow. When it comes to technology I agree but design, well look around in the world and wake up from your Apple coma. I like Apple and I have several product from them but I don´t hate everything else like you seems to do

Different screen mush thinner, only black and no silver , totally different stand, in HPcase the “computer is in there, Keyboard..come on, the trackpad, ok, I agree but as stated it´s not invented by Apple.

they are as like as two silver coloured cars , one bmw and one mb. if you can’t see that get glasses. different screen, totally different foot. When it comes to the trackpad I agree but it was not Apple that invented that. It’s inspired by the iMac not copied!

What is interesting about HP’s ripoff is that they integrated the processor and drive into the stand itself, allowing the display panel to be thinner and chinless. Not a bad idea. Of course Apple already did that with the iMac G4.

Re Tipping: my iMac has withstood over 11,000 earthquakes in the last 2 years here in Christchurch, New Zealand (starting with a 7.1) and has hasn’t fallen over once – evidence of good design I would think!

Yes, Apple designers got inspired by the design of Braun appliances manufactured in the 50s and 60. Key detail here: Braun’s products were not computers and were manufactured decades ago.

And HP got “inspired” but the current model iMac currently available now. Excused because it’s totally the same thing. Yeah, right.

There’s a substantial difference between inspiration and ripoff. You couldn’t care less about it and that’s your right, but you certainly can’t cover the sun with a finger.

What Pat doesn’t know is that the current iMac stand was originally developed at NEXT by Steve & his team of engineers. Steve was really proud of that thing, even though they didn’t have much success with the computer that went on it.

HP desktops are irrelevant. Sure they’re still sold, but I haven’t seen an HP on anyone’s desk in years.

If Apple went after HP for this, all it’ll do is draw attention to it.

It is similar, but not similar *enough* to waste resources on a lawsuit and resulting free publicity for HP.

Not that I’d buy the thing, but I like the I/O ports are along the bottom edge of the stand. Easier to get to than Apple’s behind monitor design.

OK Stepan, what was the date the HP all in one was released? and what was its name? Most important is the date. Apple’s 1st Mac was an all in one way back in 1984.

… iMac looks good, but worries me. True, ours has never tipped over. And there’s no proof a wider “foot” would prevent tipping more effectively. But …
And I like the USB ports there … visible from the front. Don’t know HOW often I’ve had to drag the whole ensemble around so I could re-arrange the wires.
Windows, eh? That’s a deal-breaker.

That is not what we are discussing here, it is the design that they copied…
Sure they made an All-in-One PC long time ago, but it was completely different to the rip off they are presenting right now as their “new” design…
People should stop rationalizing thing with the argument off Apple fanboys, they should develop their own judgment and not “borrow” it like HP and Samsung…

HP should get carte blanche for ripping off the iMac’s industrial design just because they made an all-in-one before Apple did? That’s nuts!

HP could’ve designed an original computer but chose to make it so similar to the iMac that everyone noticed. I mean, look at the Magic Trackpad clone!

HP is being reminded that people are not stupid and can tell the difference between the original and a knockoff.

Clearly, this is a blatant rip off of the look of the iMac. The reason there will be no legal issue is that the computer innards are built into stand of the HP and into the back of the display in the iMac. That is the design difference.

The stand is quite different and we already know the OS is deeply flawed.

Let’s just ignore the thing till HP abandons it or the buyers upgrade to Windows 8, whichever death comes first.
