Apple supply chain now mass shipping new iMacs, 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, say sources

“Apple’s upstream supply chain reportedly started mass shipping new iMac all-in-one PCs and Retina Display 13.3-inch MacBook Pros in September, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report for DigiTimes. “The sources estimated that the official launch of the Retina Display 13.3-inch MacBook Pro should be in either September or October to target back-to-school demand and the year-end holidays.”

Lee and Tsai report, “As for the iMac, Apple originally planned to release three new models with upgraded panels and CPUs, but due to poor yields of the panels, the mass production of the high-end model, has been postponed, without any launch schedule. The other two models – targeting the mid-range and entry-level segments – saw shipment volumes from the supply chain increase in September.”

  1. Cryptic “5” in the announcement… 5 products? New iPhone, new iMac(s), new 13.3″ retina MBP, iOS6, mini iPad???

    o_O

One thing for sure… I’m am going to owe the wife something special come Wednesday afternoon…

    1. No….and one must wonder why it is taking Apple so long to produce what the rest of the Windows-based PC world has been using for so long. If one holds to the belief that production problems with the “new” glare-free LCD monitors have delayed release then perhaps this “new” feature is the cause of the wait. Personally, I thought that the LCDs of last year’s models were quite good. I would eschew the glare-free monitor for USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, faster RAM, and a larger SSD now.

      1. Apple’s production problem isn’t glare-free LCD displays — it’s with large “Retina” LCD displays. Sharp’s factory producing these displays is new and they’ve apparently encountered significant manufacturing issues. It’s looking like the new “Retina” iMac models will be delayed.

This means some buyers may delay iMac purchases even longer.

  2. “Captin! Aye cannot can get the panel yields up for the fleet.”

“Aye Mac, aye cun see dat, we’ll just have to send whatever ships we can muster… We’ve waited too long already…Prepare to warp…”
