Samsung’s Galaxy S III outsells Apple’s iPhone 4S in U.S. in August

“Samsung’s Galaxy S III outsold the iPhone 4S in the U.S. in August, according to channel checks from Michael Walkley at Canaccord Genuity,” Jay Yarow reports.

“This is the first time since the iPhone 4S launched that it’s not the top selling phone in the U.S.,” Yarow reports.

“Most people are holding off buying an iPhone right now because Apple has all but officially announced a new iPhone is coming in September,” Yarow writes.

      Sadly Samedung couldn’t really outsell apple (even the last few weeks before (a well known) a new product launches.
      All they did was stuff the channel. Their sales for the next couple months will be horrible as the channel attempts to clear it’s self of the huge overstock.

Apple really should extend the iPhone line to different sizes. 3,5 inch, 4 inch, 4,5 inch, may be 5 inch. There is a market as we can see from SamThief.

Of course it outsold the iPhone 4s; the Galaxy III is a brand new handset with a new OS, the 4s is a year old and anyone wanting an upgrade is waiting or the iPhone 5 which will be announced next week. Isn’t Galaxy S III a new phone?

My sister just bought the Galaxy S II. I asked here why and for her it was the price that was important. She also have heard the iPhone breaks allot which I find strang but it can be that people dropp the phone and the glass screen breaks. I do see allot of young people using iPhone with cracked screens.

iPhone 4S will be a great entry phone when the iPhone 5 comes out.

About the iPhone 5.
Apple will use In Cell Technology to make the screen thinner thus making the phone thinner, or not. This will also make the screen 10% brighter. In cell Technology incorporates the touch sensing layer directly into the screen thus eleminating 1 mm of its thickness.

But the fact is that iPhone 5 will not be the first phone to use this technology. Sony Experia P and HTC Evo us already using In Cell Technology in their phones in mass production right now. But, In Cell IS the cutting edge technology ATM and iPhone will make great use of it.

I’ve often said on this board that Apple is resting on its laurels by releasing what in effect is a two and a half year old phone with minor internal updates. Most phone manufacturers have moved way beyond the iPhone 4S into newer, sexier form factors while Apple is still stuck in 2007. Empire building can only go so far if you keep releasing the same old thing year in year out.

  actually no. Apple does a great job to not alienate customers in their contract already. It’s a great strategy. You’re 1 year in and an upgraded phone has the same physical nature.. That way, they aren’t screaming “apple just wants my money by doing a new phone every year!”.
  
  Resting on laurels is something Microsoft has cornered the market on.. When they finally do something drastic, it lacks strategy or class… When they finally try to make something based on a design concept vs. bludgeoning people into buying the same rehashed BS, they end up clueless. Their culture isnt based on end users. It’s based on revenue and market share… Over the next 3 years, the thing I see happening is 10 years of prepatory strategy by apple coming to fruition and the competition sitting back saying “Shit…. The 4S is on its final leg.
The new iPhone is coming out in 2 weeks

Meanwhile, the SameSung s3 came out just a few months ago

It’s interesting to see the 4S still the no.1 at AT&T.
And of course, telcos are hard at work convincing the consumers to get the android phones instead of the iPhone to get better commissions.

I’m certain Apple will offer a larger iPhone. The day Steve said that 7″ tabs were DOA, I posted here that Apple would in fact offer a 7″ iPad, or cede the market to Android. There is no way Apple will leave so much money on the table. Consumers (like me) want larger screens. As the gadgets can do so much more than talk on it and read email, the only frustrating thing about using the things for more is the screen size. And not everyone wants to lug a laptop or ipad with them everywhere with them.

The ipad mini will go a long way towards satisfying people’s needs of a truly useful mobile computer that you can carry with you everywhere. I’ll be first in line to get it., The screen ratio is it’s killer feature. Perfect compared to the android junk.
