HTC’s next tablet won’t look like an Apple iPad; it looks like an iMac instead

“The good news is that HTC’s next 10-inch tablet won’t look like an iPad,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac.

“Instead, it will look nearly identical to a unibody iMac instead, right down to its OS X style dock and lopsided, 16:9 aspect ratio design,” Brownlee reports. “The images of the unnamed tablet were discovered by Twitter user evleaks and seemingly pulled from an HTC video online.”

Brownlee reports, “The device may not be a real product, but instead a prototype or a promo. Certainly, this is not a tablet that has been announced or released yet.”

MacDailyNews Take: It looks nice, of course. Jony Ive should be proud. But, it’ll only run fake iOS and have fun grasping those bezels, if the thing ever does see the light of day.

    1. I am guessing that you did not read the article about Microsoft licensing from Apple. They also agreed NOT TO copy Apple stuff. It was very specific licensing.

      Just a thought.

  1. It may be unfair but, manufactures are learning that even through you risk Apple coming after you . . .

If you make your product look as much as an Apple product as you can get away with, people will buy it. If you try to create your own design, people will say who?

    1. To me a violation of trade dress when you make your products even LOOK like they could have been made by a particular manufacturer, be it Apple, Bang & Olufsen, etc.. That’s just marketing by confusion and not any kind of genuine innovation or differentiation.

    1. Well, as far as I can tell it IS Pyramid Lake, shot at almost the exact same angle. If you look at the profile of the mountains in Apples photo compared to the one in the HTC photo, it is IDENTICAL…. but I would say it is not the same photo (that Misrach shot). Of course there is nothing illegal about going out and taking another photo at the same angle, but the fact that they did this is enough to make me throw up.

  2. Ballmer is a genius …… Geez I never gave the guy the credit he deserves …….

Nobody will copy the Surface, they will have that market locked-up …..

    GENIUS Ballmer, Simply GENIUS.

    1. That’s why we’re happy to let Microsoft go it’s way. Who wants something anyway beat to the nth degree with an ugly stick. Let Redmond’s klunktastic designs dwell in the bottom feeder category as Android is starved of oxygen.
