Confirmed: Apple to unveil ‘iPhone 5’ in September, then ‘iPad mini’ in October event

“Apple’s next generation iPhone and its so-called ‘iPad mini’ will debut at two separate events this fall, rather than a single one as has been widely speculated, according to several sources,” John Paczkowski reports for AllThingsD.

“First comes the latest iteration of the tech giant’s hugely popular smartphone, which will be unveiled at an as yet unannounced event on September 12,” Paczkowski reports. “Only after the next-generation iPhone is out the door and on sale will Apple announce the smaller iPad it’s been working on. That device, which is expected to have a display of less than eight inches, will be uncrated at a second special event, which sources said is currently scheduled for October.”

Paczkowski writes, “Daring Fireball’s John Gruber recently posited that reports suggesting Apple would debut the new iPhone and iPad mini at a single event were off-base… As it turns out, sources said, that more than make[s] sense — it’s so.”

      1. Couldn’t agree with you more. “Confirmed” is not a word to use in this headline. Replace that with “Rumored” and you’ve got a true report. “Confirmed” only applies to Apple sources quoted, otherwise this is pure speculation like everyone else tries to do.

        1. And I might add, as soon as these stupid rumors are proved UN-True, the stock tanks because it wasn’t up to these people’s dreams. I hate these people and their predictions, they just jerk the stock value around.

    1. There was a time when Apple rumors were well researched and reliable. That time is OVER and DEAD.

Never believe an Apple rumor until its hatched, as in VERIFIED by Apple themselves. Dumbass Apple rumor mongers are now multitudinous and reckless. 2012 is turning out to EASILY be the stupidest year for Apple rumors ever. You have been warned.

  1. I always thought it would be this way. So did Gruber. Last I checked his article, he speculated the same. Then rumor mill started confirming idea on his guess. Nothing is confirmed.

  2. Pls let this iphone be awesome! Awesome batttery life, awesome screen than prev, bigger screen, 4G, widgets, upgraded UI, faster, and just make it better than galax s3 pls!!!!!

    1. Make is better than the Galaxy S3 ??? You must be clueless. The iPhone 3G is better than the latest Samsung junk. If all you are after is specs and don’t care if they match up then I suggest you stick with your Dell desktop and Windows 7.

  3. I would say “effectively confirmed” for iPhone on Sept 12, and iPad Mini (or whatever it will be called) in Oct.

While Apple hasn’t said anything, John P. at AllThingsD is normally spot on correct. My theory is that he is the Wall Street Journalist that gets “controlled leaks”.

  4. Confirmed? How can you call this announcement confirmed? You have Gruber speculating and then Paczkowski saying he agrees with Gruber’s speculation.

Hitwhoring, MDN? Have you decided to join the ranks of Gizmodo, et al?

  5. How is this a confirmed news? You have Gruber speculating and then Paczkowski saying he agrees with Gruber’s speculation.
