“The e-book, produced as part of a two-month reporting project that included interviews with two dozen current and former members of Obama’s team, illuminates how the mood and character of the 2012 reelection effort is flowing from the top — with Obama’s own personality and values shaping his campaign just as powerfully as he did four years ago,” Thrush reports.
Thrush reports, “To give Obama a break from the relentless negativity of the campaign, friend and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett quietly set up a salon/dinner for Obama over the summer — which lasted more than two hours, a huge block of presidential time. On hand were Jarrett’s friend and Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson, Facebook billionaire and new New Republic Publisher Chris Hughes, and Apple executive Scott Forstall, who led the team that developed the iPhone. One of the topics? Civility and political discourse.”

I am not against conservatism, in general. As I have stated before, I am more conservative in some aspects of my life and more liberal in others. In other words, a real person who recognizes that valid positions exist between the extremes. I am unwilling to label myself just so that I can join a group of people that enjoy patting each other on the back while reaffirming their shared viewpoints on everything.
Obama faced a very difficult situation coming into office and has not lived up to all of his promises. I would certainly be willing to cast my vote for a competing candidate that offered more promise. But, somehow, the GOP keeps bringing duds to the table, and the Democrats are no longer bringing worse duds like they did against Bush. I suspect that many voters might consider Romney/Ryan a significant improvement over the McCain/Palin ticket of 2008. But is it good enough? And then I consider all of the mean-spirited, nasty, labeling and sound bites and disinformation from the right and it makes me want to vote for anyone other than the GOP ticket. If Romney/Ryan lose, and I think it likely, then that may be the thing that lost it for them. Anytime someone tells me that I either believe everything that I am fed or I am , then I inherently distrust that source. The GOP has become far too much like a religion, and I don’t vote on faith.

I go to many tech sites and this one entices and attracts anti Obama comments in the harshest and crudest terms, the level of discussion is like a cesspool. Just read the comments and ask is this someone I want to spend time with. If you agree with their position, you may not care. I have a lot of close friends, including a girl friend, who I disagree with strongly however we are able to communicate using facts, not ideology.

In swing states, 40% say they are better off and 56% say they are not better off. That includes 50% of independent voters, in addition to 36% of Democrats and 84% of Republicans saying they are not better off.

The results are similar for all U.S. registered voters, among whom 42% say they are better off and 55% say they are not.
Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan famously asked Americans, in a 1980 presidential debate, if they were better off than four years ago. Shortly thereafter, he decisively defeated incumbent Jimmy Carter in the presidential election.

I wend to that article in Politico, tried to read the whole thing, looking carefully for more on that meeting with Forstall, only to find the only mention of him in the last sentence of the article, which MDN quoted verbatim. In other words, there is a 10-page article on Obama’s election campaign, with one single sentence, at the very end, mentioning Forstall (in passing).

We needed to be brought together, reminded of what we’ve done together, and challenged to accomplish more. We needed someone to ask us once more, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Instead we got, “Just tell me what you need, and I’ll have the government do it for you.”

I don’t take sides in politics but must say that this president cares about America as a whole and is not focused on one niche group but is rather focused on the core of America. While I don’t agree with all his decisions, I am not stupid enough to take stake with a political party.
For instance, I feel the republicans have taken this country hostage and have worked hard to be anti-Obama. The dems, I don’t know. Perhaps they can do more. I thought former president Bush was an awful president but he deserved the respect of president as much as this one does.

The president can’t even halt most federal spending, as most of the budget is baked in long-term contracts that cannot be turned off without substantial penalties. Of course, that doesn’t stop partisan parrots from their annoying snipes.
