I agree that their search return far too much profit oriented results but, to be honest, I have difficulty finding a better alternative. I’ve tried Bing, StartPage, and DuckDuckGo… As ironic as it may seem, I’m hoping Bing continues to refine itself and improve.

I also agree with you about Google stifling innovation. Their MO of giving everything away for “free” wipes out startups with brilliant ideas.

I find myself despising this company more and more with each passing day. I frustrates me whenever I hear about friends using their services. I wish you the best of luck on your endeavor.

Google’s money comes 98% from advertising. Let’s hit them where it hurts.

Next I’ll start sending e-mails to companies running ads on Google telling them I don’t like them supporting Google’s hypocrisy and will be buying elsewhere.

I supported Google when they were a young company starting in web search, they were not very good even at search back then but the clean webpage – thanks for that Marissa – and almost no ads made it a nicer experience than Altavista.

Nowadays it’s the complete opposite, their search results are full of crap and they help pester the rest of the web with more crap ads for scams and fraudsters. They track us everywhere, even when we don’t want to. They have the attitude that they can pay their way out of any law – either by billions lobbying or small pointless fines.

Google is also an out of control fungus, they either buy – or most often copy – themselves into emerging tech fields and then choke off all the nutrients (ie funding) out of the ecosystem by leveraging their gargantuan ad monopoly. It’s really hard for anyone else to compete with “free” (with ads) even when the other product is really much better. That’s not healthy for business, society and certainly not good for innovation.

I think that those of us who helped create this monster should feel particularly obligated to now help destroy it.

But we need to be organised! There’s much criticism of Google out there but it’s not well aligned and not very visible. If anyone has ideas or wishes to discuss this please contact me at gkmac at ymail.com

I can’t stand that company and hope that they rot.

Since, they knew they couldn’t compete against Apple, they instead buy up Moto’s patent portfolio and start suing away and threatening to ban sales.

It has been reported in the past that Google/Moto are discriminating against Apple by inflating the patent licenses. Apple has argued that Google/Moto are abusing FRAND standards by not promoting the fair practices.

The axis of evil tries propaganda by saying the Apple should be allowing greater use of their patents. Well, Apple didn’t work their butts off and Steve Jobs didn’t dream big dreams for Goolge/Samsung/Motorola to take advantage of. Remember all those companies that laughed at Apple and underestimated the iPhone when it was first revealed.

A lot of big companies do nothing more than copy Apple. Rave Jobs challenged them to stop copying and innovate their own stuff. Why aren’t they? Why are they suing to continue copying?

Seriously!! if they were so darn smart, why didn’t they use their talented engineers and patents to make an iPhone?

Now that they are late to the party and didn’t have the vision to begin with.. they want to claim being smart and innovative !

The TRUE Google motto seems pretty clear:
Do no evil… to me. But I’ll do whatever evil I want.
Variant: What is yours is mine, and what is mine is mine.

I can remember the day when I was a Google fan and was happy to see them on the iPhone. Times change.

Next up — dump GMail. That will take a little more commitment.

I’m firewalling Google out of my systems after this and their hypocrisy today in not revealing their financial connections to bloggers and writers.

But I want to support this site. It doesn’t make much sense that you’re helping Google running ads for them either.

As long as Apple continues to Innovate, we’ll be fine but they better stop with hiring inferior retail bosses and producing cheap looking packing (seen a MBA packaging lately, fricking plastic, cheap-looking plastic tray)
