What’s a Fox News celebrity doing in Apple v. Samsung?

“In addition to becoming the youngest woman [to] win tenure at Harvard, running Michael Dukakis’ presidential campaign, writing more than half a dozen books… [and] commentary for Fox News, Susan Estrich has, since 2008, been a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, the law firm defending Samsung in Apple’s multibillion dollar patent infringement suit,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

“On Tuesday, according to Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal’s official court minutes, she and another Quinn lawyer represented Samsung at a hearing about which side deleted what e-mail evidence and when,” P.E.D. reports. “Only trouble is, although Estrich is a Professor of Law at the University of Southern California Law School, court records do not show that is certified to practice law in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California… Judge Grewal has given Samsung until 5 p.m. to clear the matter up.”

    1. Yup. Boring. Let’s start reprinting Apple news stories that are interesting. And quit adding comment to the headline. Only here do the headlines gush over anything Apple does and vilify everyone else who isn’t Apple. C’mon, at least some of us are adults and also non fanboys. We come to the site to read about Apple, warts and all. We don’t make excuses when Apple screws up we just accept it and move on. Like adults should do. But Apple never screws up here. Your job is to pass along all stories about Apple not just the good ones. Let us decide when Apple is wrong. We don’t want or need the headlines that praise Apple. Respect your audience.

        1. it’s common to have 2 or more cigarettes at a time. walk through the door after work, put half smoked cigarette in the ashtray while you put ice in a rocks glass, answer your phone, light a fresh cigarette as the other burns in the ashtray, walk into the den to grab some papers, put cigarette in ashtray, leave den light cigarette, pour drink, say goodbye to associate, shake head, crush out cigarette #1, loosen tie, think about how old your son has to be to mow the lawn and if you left that cigarette burning in the den. light another cigarette, finish drink.
this 2-3 cigarettes at a time is how my father smoked. he died of lung cancer.
          how is this Apple related?

  1. Susan Estrich is a tool of the right, having sold her soul to Faux for cash as a token punching bag for the straw men set up daily by Faux hosts.

She hasn’t been relevant to politics since she crashed the Dukakis campaign.

    1. … a bit bogus, but did you get the sentence construction wrong? “Fox” and “News” are the words that ought not be used in the same sentence. “Celebrity” works with either of them.
      My opinion, of course.
My question is: “does this really relate to Apple?”. It seems essentially a court-room issue that might bite Samsung in the butt.
While Estrich might not be licensed to practice law in that jurisdiction, that should not bar her from participating in the case as long as she speaks to the court only when spoken to and allows a certified attorney to do that task.

  2. Dukakis and Fox News are, let’s say, on opposite sides of the 50 yard line.

What team does she play on? Does she choose as she sees fit?

I wouldn’t trust her with a dirt bag… Oh wait, she started with one, and is holding court with one, as we speak.

    Sack the bitch!
