Apple: Google warned Samsung against slavishly copying our products

“When Apple’s patent battle with Samsung heads to trial next week, the iPhone maker plans to build its case using its Korean rival’s own words against it,” John Paczkowski reports for AllThingsD.

“An unredacted version of Apple’s trial brief bluntly states that Samsung was well aware that its smartphones and tablets bore a striking resemblance to Apple’s iPhone and iPad and that the issue was one the company discussed internally,” Paczkowski reports. “Among those documents are a few purported to show that Samsung not only deliberately copied certain characteristics of the iPhone and iPad, but was also explicitily warned away from doing so by various third parties, including Google.”

Paczkowski reports, “In February 2010, Google told Samsung that Samsung’s ‘P1’ and ‘P3’ tablets (Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab 10.1) were ‘too similar’ to the iPad and demanded ‘distinguishable design vis-à-vis the iPad for the P3.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Again, Samsung’s lack of business ethics is appalling. Hopefully the jury will see the blatantly obvious, too.

  1. Google: come on Sammy, you can’t copy Apple.
    Sammy: Are you serious?
Google: nahhhh, just kidding, I had you going there…

Both laugh then stop as they see nuke streaming toward them, and who is that riding the nuke…

    Both: is that Steve?
    Steve: Yeehaaa, wanna know evil!

Google warned Samsung about copying Apple…? That’s REALLY funny! One key reason the Samsung Galaxy looks so much like an iPhone (in addition to the hardware) is because Android screen looks so much like iOS. If the Galaxy ran an OS that looked like Windows Phone or WebOS, Apple probably would not have taken legal action.

    1. Stock Android dosen’t look much like iOS to me, granted you can tell they copied a lot of the base UI and feel of iOS but in stock form its laid out differently with the search widget and only a couple of launcher icons.

Samsung built their own launcher and UI layer that they slap on Android and that thing is a freaking dead on knockoff if you ask me.

At least Google made a half @ssed attempt at adding a UI with some unique features and layout. Samsung literally went for a carbon copy look and feel.

It must have been like two thieves trading tips… “well if you leave the DVD player and just take the TV the cops will have a harder time proving you were a totally heartless bastard!” Lol

  3. now Apple have fun to threat Samsung. but the day of crying is coming close than they will enjoy more. Samsung manufacture 85% with their own products. but Apple makes only unibody. other parts are all dealt with subcontractor. nothing Apple manufacture itself. soon, they will perish if they don’t make their own parts.

    1. I agree much to what saying you. Apple need for ideas of the newness bring about failure big. Hide behind profits of billions does apple company. Shutter down of company & money shareholders give back to.

  4. Interesting how the before Android phone resembles a Blackberry and the after phone looks more like an iPhone. Slavish copiers longer than previously thought.

    Court date reckoning coming soon.
