If you go to the ML main page from apple.com and click the Upgrade Now button, it takes you to the App Store page and appears to be available now to download.

When will OSX 10.8 come preloaded on new macs? I’m going to buy a macbook air, but i was waiting for it to come preloaded as to save space. Does anyone have an idea, like tomorrow or thurday?

There are many potential reasons for a slow Mac and “spiny” wheels. The advice from others is sound – a RAM upgrade generally provides the best bang for the buck. But I am running OS X 10.7.4 on a 2007 Intel iMac with 4GB RAM (667 MHz) and it is working fine. I did not notice a reduction in performance from Snow Leopard. So it is entirely possible that it is not your 2009 Mac Pro hardware. Do some research. Consider consulting with a Mac genius. Because I can absolutely guarantee that no release of OS X is like Vista.

I agree this is a better OS than Lion. I noticed after using it for a brief time how much snappier it is. Safari 6 is a HUGE improvement too.

I bought my MBP 13″ on May 8 and haven’t rebooted. I’d say Lion is pretty darned strong.

It’s absurd to suggest 2GB of RAM is sufficient to run ML. Wish Apple would just bite the bullet and admit 4GB is the true minimum for reasonable computing.

Without sounding snarky or sarcastic, you might want to invest in an SSD and/or a RAM upgrade. My 2009 Mac Mini really hums along. Disclaimer: I don’t use Photoshop or MS products, which may or may not give me a zippier Mac.

I second that. I haven’t even seen any minor problems or even any hitches, snags, or even hiccups in the couple of months (continuous) I’ve been using it. A couple of very low grade annoyances maybe, but that’s it.

Since I bought my first Mac in 2007 I have bought every new OS release the week of. Lion has made me a little gun shy. Snow Leopard was awesome and made my 2009 MacBook Pro run better but Lion has made me feel like I installed Vista or something. It made my Mac very slow & sluggish with constant spiny wheels. So I am with those who have had issues with Lion. I am going to take a wait and see on this one.

I can tell you from daily usage that Mountain Lion (GM) is rock-solid. I have not noticed any major problems. Much more stable than Lion!

Why do you even need to go there? You make Mac users look like Mac losers. If you don’t like Windows, don’t use it.

BTW it’s pretty consensual that most Mac users would have been content if Apple would have simply added iCloud support to Snow Leopard. Lion didn’t go over very well, so many of us will approach ML with caution or stick with SL.
