Every Apple Retail Store employee just got a $4-per-hour raise

“A source tells us that every Apple retail employee will get a $4-per-hour raise,” Dylan Love reports for The Business Insider.

“It will go into effect on their July 20 checks,” Love reports. “It seems that enough Apple employees thought they were underpaid that the company decided to spread some money around.”

  I’ve gone through 10 or 12 business experts at my local Apple Store. They may not have been small-g “geniuses”, but they were perfectly fine. I’m assuming they just keep getting snapped up by their clients.

At the London store where my daughter works, they had two vacancies which received over 700 applications within one day! …so no shortage of interest.
A pay rise is long overdue for all the overseas stores too.

I don’t think Apple should take advantage of the fact people want to work for them. With so much obscene profit they can certainly afford making employees happy and barely feel it. The capitalistic system should mean spreading it around (and not all to CEO’s in general). Let’s keep building up that middle class!

      My sister was “top brass” of her small business. She, on multiple occasions, tried to get the employees to be watchful of careless errors that were costing her money, to no avail. So instead of losing more of her investment in her business, she showed up for work one day and told her employees she was closing the doors and in three days, they would need to find employment elsewhere.
      
      Sure bosses shouldn’t screw over good employees. If they do, the employee should seek employment elsewhere where their hard work will be appreciated. However, employees shouldn’t take advantage of business just because they show up for two weeks and expect a paycheck in return. You want more than “crumbs” start your own endeavor or excel and standout from the rest.
      
      There may be a Forbes 500 list but there are more than 500 businesses trying to earn a buck and they all aren’t sitting on a pile of cash such as Apple! However, the tenor resonating from some politicians would make you think that was the case!

        Excellent comment. I have an employee I would LOVE to give a raise to, but she sits and does the same job everyday, never expanding her skills, ie never making her worth more to me, the boss. Also, employees taking advantage of employers is probably many, many times more common than the other way around.

  As for “obscene profit”, Apple creates a product, places it on the market, people determine if the price is a good value, then people GLADLY pay the price for it.

I’ve found 99.99% of employees at Apple Stores to be very good. It’s probably b/c they’re passionate about Apple products.

Probably most retailers would do better if they spent more time hiring the right people. I had a friend who worked at Wal-mart, and they said (at their store) you only ever saw 1/3rd of employees at any given time; the rest were in the back doing nothing. I said they should fire the lazy 2/3rds and give the good employees more money. Paying fewer quality people more money seems a lot better than paying many bad people little.

  This “system” of workers hiding isn’t limited to Walmart. Home Depot’s NEW BRIGHTON Blvd store in Minneapolis must not have a back room since their “spare lazy workers” hang out in the Tire Dept. To copy Apple’s success means not just greeters at the doors, but knowedgeable workers who hustle not hide.

Assuming FTE, with Vacation and Holiday pay, that’s 8,320 per annum increase. Assuming an Apple employee does not earn more than 35K per year, we are looking at something close 25% pay increase. This is huge.

Are most Apple retail store employees FTE or HTE?

  Ummm.… I think you’re shoveling quite a load here. I’ve visited Apple stores all over North America and in Britain. I’ve NEVER met a dumb employee yet. I have met consistently some of the MOST enthusiastic, dedicated and downright helpfully retail staff of ANY store.
  
  Considering the incredible sales per square foot Apple Retail stores garner, this raise is well deserved and I applaud Apple for doing the right thing.

    Of course, at holiday time you may get some people who are not that well informed, but they are temp workers to deal with the rush.
    
    All of the regulars at the two Apple stores here I frequent are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic people who either really like their jobs or are good at faking it. Either way, they make it a great shopping experience.
