“On June 7, 2012, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that reveals their work on possible new QuickTime interface controls,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.
“The new controls will allow users to set a speed of playback which will provide users with superior playback accuracy,” Purcher reports. “The new controls temporarily replace the traditional timeline scrubber. When the user taps on the scrubber, the interface will begin to morph and pop-out in 3D fashion to reveal the new interface controls.”
Purcher writes, “While today’s patent may not be a stunning new concept, it could definitely end up being very practical for many users.”

Interface is eye candy, lets hope there is more advancements in the QT technology because Silverlight is gaining steam.

The current QuickTime player already does most of what this patent is talking about. If you click and hold on the QTX slider it morphs into a detailed slider.
The uses when watching porn are mind-boggling.
A few versions of QuickTime ago you could step through playback frame by frame by hitting pause and then using the arrow keys – so useful for the money shots.

Can you move the controls so that they’re not superimposed on top of the video you’re trying to watch? Because that’s the stupidest thing about the current interface.
