Sony to supply in-cell touch panels for next-gen iPhone to launch in October, say sources

“Sony is likely to become one of the in-cell touch panel suppliers for Apple’s next-generation iPhone, which is expected to be launched in September or October, according to industry sources,” Siu Han and Steve Shen report for DigiTimes.

“LG Display, Toshiba Mobile Display (TMD) and Sharp have been previously tapped as the three suppliers of in-cell touch panels for the new iPhone,” Han and Shen report. “Sony will begin volume production of in-cell touch panels for the new iPhone at the end of May, revealed the sources.”

  1. This year can’t progress fast enough for me, in order to see Apple’s new product announcements! Especially since this seems like a good time to update my six year old iMac and maybe look at purchasing a new iPhone…

    iPhone 3G: released Jul 11, 2008
    iPhone 3GS: released Jun 19, 2009
    iPhone 4: released June 24, 2010
    iPhone 4S: released Oct 14, 2011

    It is aprox one year between iphone releases. Only that last one, the 4S, slipped away a few months. From October 2011 to October 2012 is one year.

    October 12th or 19th, 2012 should be fine.
