Obama, Clinton pay tribute to Steve Jobs via video at the Webbys (with video)

“Nearly a dozen celebrities, politicians and tech luminaries paid tribute to late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at today’s annual Webby awards show,” Josh Lowensohn reports for CNET.

“A video featuring President Barack Obama, former president Bill Clinton and others expressing admiration for Jobs, who died last October, was shown to attendees and streamed over the Web,” Lowensohn reports. “Also making appearances were U2 frontman Bono, Star Wars creator George Lucas, former U.S. vice president (and current Apple board member) Al Gore, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, comedians Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Fallon, as well as Web mogul Adriana Huffington, and computer scientist Vint Cerf.”

Lowensohn reports, “Actors John Hodgman and Justin Long, who played the characters of PC and Mac respectively during one of Apple’s most famous and long-running ad campaigns, introduced the video tribute. The video was also preceeded with an individual tribute from actor Richard Dreyfuss, who narrated Apple’s ‘Think Different’ ad… Dreyfuss summed up Jobs’ life in five words, saying the inventor was the ‘exception that proves the rule.'”

    3. Clinton too is accorded the continuing title of President, but it becomes clumsy to mix references to a sitting President and a former one (President Obama and former President Clinton). It is common to headline references to a group of former Presidents (former Presidents Bush and Clinton), but stating Presidents Obama and Clinton fails to honor the distinction in current status.

      I think MDN has a better sense of style, than you do of protocol.

        10. Simple Solution to “Socialist” problems. Liberals can register and pay extra taxes AND receive benefits, unemployment, and Social Security when they retire. There kids can go to school for free. Conservatives can register “no” pay less taxes and receive no social safety net. If they become unemployed and sick they can use the money they saved over their lifetimes, and pay for their kids to go to school. –and since nobody owes them anything, they can retire on whatever they saved during their lifetime for better or for worse.

          Just remember, if your entire retirement money was invested in an “Enron” type company, nobody owes you anything. You are on your own just the way you believe it should be, right?

          If you were in a coma for a year and woke up after the election and never watched the news for a year would you know who was president?           The real truth is that the top 1% of wage earners pay a third (37%) of the total federal income tax collected. The top 10% (inclusive) pay 70% of those taxes. On the other end of the scale the bottom -half- of wage earners (below about 32,000) pay about 3% of the total taxes paid.

          Dosen’t really fit with the “the rich don’t pay their fair share” mantra that the liberals continue to spew (in order to foment class warfare) does it?

          – U.S. Corporate tax largest than any country in the World!

          – Government regulation growing so fast businesses are closing because they can not meet the new fed demands.

          The only power the President really has in our lives is to bring up discussion. If the President talks about Gay Marriage we all do. If the President talks about Health Care we all do, and Congress mostly takes over from there.

          So just vote for the President who will steer the country’s discussion into the direction you want to talk about, because that is all the President really accomplishes in our society. He is like the head of the debate team.

          If you don’t want to talk about gay marriage, vote for Romney, if you do, vote for Obama. That is all the President can hope to accomplish.

          Forget the Constitution, there are very few Americans who have any use for it at all. All the power and authority that the Constitution offers, you delegated away from you the minute you cast your vote. The Constitution is for the people who Govern you, not for you.
          Do they EVER let you vote on issues yourself? No. You MUST delegate the authority given by the Constitution to the person you pick to rule you. There is no power granted to YOU, by the constitution. Even in court, the Judge and Jury will decide for you.

          Let’s be real, and stop pretending any of this matters. If you really want to have a good debate, let’s debate how we can replace the constitution with something that empowers us all. This Republican/Democrat debate is getting old and useless and will accomplish nothing.

          That’s why I said before, on the track we are on, it will be 1,000 years before we have any form of government that truly empowers the people. I don’t know what it will look like, but this ain’t it.

The rising of Steve Jobs and The Beatles—what a thrill to witness both in my life time on this planet. At least I got to see Steve in person. Closest I got to a Beatle was visiting the outside of The Dakota building in NY, years after John was gone.
      Why couldn’t it have been Ballmer leaving the planet, no one would notice he was even gone (except Microsloths products might noticeably improve a bit).

    I loved the Mac/PC commercials but Justin Lang always came off as a D-bag.

    Dreyfuss had some fighting’ words for Facebook and Google, maybe, if enough people point out Big Brother, maybe, we might do something about it.

    Love the Point Dreyfuss made about how we loathe the companies that we have to buy from, I have always found it amazing how Apple makes us love the products and company.

    I have noted that many elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called upon America to unite behind Obama.

    Well, I want to make it clear to all who will listen that I AM NOT uniting behind Obama!
    I will respect the Office which he holds, and I will acknowledge his abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, BUT that is it.

    I have begun today to see what I can do to make sure that he is a one-term President!
    Why am I doing this?

    It is because:

    – I do not share Obama’s vision or value system for America;

    – I do not share his radical Marxist’s concept of re-distributing wealth;

    – I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);

    – I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;

    – I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;

    – I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;

    – I do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our American Citizens who need help;

    – I do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;

    – I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend and Israel is our enemy who should give up any land;

    – I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);

    – I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system in America;

    – I do not share his Strategic views of the Middle East; and

    – I certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as Iran.

    Bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama’s, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is Right!

    For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs!

    They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and their philosophies, and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country!

    They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant!

    They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years!

    They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country!

    They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society!

    They have challenged capital punishment, the right to bear firearms, and the most basic principles of our criminal code!

    They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms, the right of free speech!
    Unite behind Obama? Never!

    I am sure many of you who read this think that I am going overboard, but I refuse to retreat one more inch in favor of those whom I believe are the embodiment of Evil!
    PRESIDENT BUSH made many mistakes during his Presidency, and I am not sure how history will judge him. However, I believe that he weighed his decisions in light of the long established Judeo-Christian principles of our Founding Fathers!!!
    Majority rules in America, and I will honor the concept; however, I will fight with all of my power to be a voice in opposition to Obama and his “goals for America ..”

    I am going to be a thorn in the side of those who, if left unchecked, will destroy our Country! Any more compromise is more defeat!
    I pray that the results of this election will wake up many who have sat on the sidelines and allowed the Socialist-Marxist anti-GOD crowd to slowly change so much of what has been good in America!

    2. If that came from a Pulpit, the 1st Baptist Church of Atlanta and In Touch Ministries should lose their tax exempt status.

      Still haven’t figured out how a Southern Baptist Church (FBC Atlanta) squares Stanley being divorced with Southern Baptist teaching on the subject.

  19. Tears have never stopped here, never will. I was crying the last few years watching him, every keynote. His bravery. Breathing was an exertion for him the last few years. I loved him since the late 70s. I still love him, always will. I saw his greatness instantly, stuck by him all those years when everybody was scoffing. The brightest light taken to heaven far too soon for those of us left behind. Thank you Steve.
