“In a market where automobile manufacturers are making cars that talk, hear and even sense when the driver may be driving askew, it’s not surprising that there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to adopting new automobile technologies. General Motors, however, is giving consumers a little push,” Cadie Thompson reports for CNBC.
“GM’s Cadillac brand is launching the Cadillac User Experience (CUE), an in-vehicle system that uses touch and voice controls as way to access information and entertainment, in its latest release of the Cadillac XTS. As part of this launch, which is slated for later this spring, Cadillac is taking some steps to ensure consumers are comfortable with the technology,” Thompson reports. “One way they are doing this is by giving every buyer of the Cadillac XTS Apple’s new iPad.”
Thompson reports, “‘We want to provide customers with tools to be comfortable,” said Mark Harland, manager of the connected customer at General Motors ‘The CUE, in terms of the touching and swiping and moving and pinching, is very similar to the iPad and tablets that are out there right now.’ There will be a preloaded app on the iPad that is a simulator of the CUE, allowing for the customer to get comfortable with the CUE system. YouTube videos explaining how the CUE system works and a remote On-Star application will also come preloaded on the iPad.”

He may not know song lyrics but he is right about the CTS-V that Caddy hauls ass but quick. I like Mercedes but BMW has always seemed no more reliable than a Chrysler product.
If Cadillac was really smart, they would have a docking connector right in the dashboard that the iPad could be dropped on and snapped in place as a normal fixture. It could be part and parcel of the entire control, mapping, audio, HVAC and even telephone system.
Have Apple enable Siri in such an iPad and integrate with On-Star if you must with an App.
Hell. I might even consider such a vehicle integrated with Apple technology despite my general bias against American cars.
Cadillac has come a long, long way since the old man boat car days. They are packed with cutting-edge tech, are direct competition with BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus, and are definitely distinct. Build quality has improved immensely.
I think Cadillac’s new CUE system shows just how much importance Cadillac is putting on ease of use of technology to aid the driver. If you haven’t seen the videos, go to Cadillac’s website. It’s pretty impressive, particularly when measured against other auto manufacturer’s offerings.
Crapillac and Crapolet are the same old bullshit from Government Motors. Don’t for a minute buy the bullshit that GM has repaid the bailout.
1- GM was split and liabilities were dumped on the ‘old GM’ and assets put into the new GM.
2- GMAC, by bankruptcy time only 50% owned by GM (the rest by private equity) was heavily bailed out under TARP and the Feds money machine and is now called Ally Bank. Ally’s mortgage unit is still a zombie on the edge of tanking- again.
3- Delphi, the old GM parts subsidiary companies, is teetering and got some love from D.C. as well.
4- GM and Delphi conveniently dumped the massively underfunded pension liabilities upon the US taxpayer via the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).
5- The rapid ‘payback’ of TARP money was more of the same sketchy accounting that got GM into trouble in the first place.
And BTW Mr/Ms US Taxpayer- GM is so thankful you bailed them out that they have built the bulk of their new plants outside the US. Nothing like a Chinese engine in your new ‘American’ Buick.
Anyone who thinks a Crapillac is in competition with Audi or BMW hasn’t driven past 55 MPH while sober. Most Crapillacs are re-bodied Craploets or Bucks.

Ford did not take one dime of bailout money. Why anyone opposed to the bailout of Government Motors or the second bailout of Chrysler would buy one of these things is beyond me. Despite this, I see GOP bumper stickers and RawMoney stickers on lots of Crapillacs, Crapolets, Jeeps, Chryslers and Dodges.

As a taxpayer who knows how badly the taxpayer was ripped off by the GM bailout, I would like our money back-all of it,from the new shell company and the old shell company. And since your company is now making money we should dump the more than a hundred billion $ of unfunded pension liabilities GM left the US taxpayer with back on your balance sheet.
America would have been greatly beautified with Crapolets and Crapillacs removed from our roads.
