“T-Mobile has revealed plans for the wireless carrier’s network to offer iPhone-compatible HSPA+ 4G service by the end of this year,” Josh Ong reports for AppleInsider.
“T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray made comments during a dinner event on Monday that T-Mobile will use 1900MHz spectrum for its upgraded network that would allow iPhone users access to 4G speeds, as noted by All Things D,” Ong reports. “The carrier recently obtained much-needed spectrum from AT&T as part of the breakup fee of an attempted merger between the two companies.”
Ong reports, “Though T-Mobile is largely focusing on upgrading to an LTE network, the company has recommitted some of its 1900MHz spectrum for its HSPA+ 4G network, CNet reports. Current iPhone models are expected to be able to take advantage of the network as a result. Subscribers who use unlocked iPhones on the T-Mobile network are limited to 2G speeds at present… T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm said early this year that frequency band incompatibility is the ‘key reason’ that the company doesn’t officially offer Apple’s iPhone.”

Should this happen, then by far the least expensive iPhone solution for America would be T-Mobile’s prepaid plans. No other carrier offers anything nearly as competitive.
Rather than paying AT&T / Verizon / Sprint $70 and more for some basic talk, plus basic text, plus lowest data plan, you cold pay $50 and get unlimited talk/text/data, NOT be shackled to a two-year contract, and still save money (the difference between these two plans is higher than the price difference of subsidised and unsubsidised iPhone — you pay less by buying the iPhone upfront).
I’ll be paying my early termination fees to AT&T and moving back to T-Mobile by the end of the year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
