Game over, Android: Apple owns 84% of mobile gaming revenue

“There’s a reason why so many developers feels iOS users are more valuable than Android: Apple is killing it in mobile gaming with 84 percent of all mobile gaming revenue in the US,” Meghan Kelly reports for VentureBeat.

“Newzoo surveyed 17,000 individuals and took revenue data from the top 200 grossing games in the iOS and Android marketplaces,” Kelly reports. “In the United States, mobile gaming overall grew from 75 million to 101 million players across all platforms.”

Kelly reports, “Paying players have grown 35 percent to 37 million players, and those individuals play 5 times more money in iOS games, than they do on Android.”

MacDailyNews Take: Android. The poor man’s iPhone.

They ought to come out with the “Droid Cheapskate.” It’d be the bestselling fake iPhone ever released.

  1. This is the best news I’ve heard all day and makes up for the ridiculous Oracle v. google decision. SUCK IT GOOGLE – Mindshare, proitshare and marketshare for iOS is kicking Android’s ass.

  2. Freetards don’t want to pay for anything. They will suffer and suffer and say ‘but its free’. Android is kind of the slum of smartphones. People that live in slums generally don’t pay for anything, the taxpayers do it for them.

  3. You don’t hear the Phandroids as loudly or as often anymore, do you? The fight seems to have been taken out of them for some reason.

The kids calling Androids the “pretend iPhone” is a reality check you can’t really fight against for long.

But you see Android phones out there often enough. It reminds me of seeing all those cheap-@ss nobody-wants-em cars on the streets, and you’d wonder why they were there. Who bought them?

They were cheap fleet cars that GM and Ford sold to Hertz and Avis, or to people buying the most car they could afford (that is, not much). Without those sales, those models would’ve sank like a rock.

Not a perfect analogy, but those Android phones remind me of the cheap fleet sales that drives substantial market share on this planet.
