“Apple is reportedly considering responding to the upcoming second-generation ultrabooks by launching a US$799 MacBook Air in the third quarter of 2012, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” Monica Chen and Joseph Tsai report for DigiTimes.
Chen and Tsai report, “Currently, Apple’s 11-inch 64GB MacBook Air is priced at US$999 with a 128GB version priced at US$1,199. The 13-inch 128GB version is priced at US$1,299 and 256GB version is US$1,599. If Apple decides to launch a US$799 MacBook Air, the sources believe the strategy will damage ultrabooks allowing Apple to continue to press its advantage.”

MacDailyNews Take: You know, because Apple always tells upstream suppliers what their final SRP will be (sarcasm laced with sarcasm). We’re not saying this item and/or it’s final price isn’t true, just that someone somewhere in the chain has leapt to a conclusion on the final product’s SRP that Apple likely would not be sharing with suppliers.
MacDailyNews Note: Oh, BTW: We just noticed that we passed 35,000 last Friday!
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Dan K.” for the heads up.]
Yes, good
The timing doesn’t sound plausible.
I would have thought that an airbook like that would be timed to appear comfortably before season for buying computers for college, not afterwards.
The only leap made is by digitizes, notorious for making up crap.
Digitimes
35,000 what?
Articles. It used to be easy to keep track when they used Expression Engine, because the number was in the URL. Now they’re with WordPress, so yeah, harder to tell.
thx
I wonder who outside of MDN hold the record for the “the most of those 35000 articles read” I going to vote me. I know I’ve read every article you posted in the last five years. It’s kind of scary to think how many I’ve,read now it think of it. congratulations that’s a lot of work and dedication
And Fred probably submitted 30,000 of them.
no
Apple is NOT concerned with Ultra Books or any Windows notebooks/laptops. When will the media start to understand this.
Apple prices products with no real regard for Windows-based computers. When will the media realize this? We all do and have spent the money to prove it.
I don’t much care for rumours these days, but a $799 MBA… me so likey! Well, you know what I mean.
I wonder if this means using AMD trinity?
Can we have a Digitimes filter? Their reports are a complete waste of time. Just stop wasting our time with this, MDN.
+1
Seriously. Most of these types of rumors are bogus, but for DigiTimes, it’s a completely worthless use of bits.
