It’s calculated on revenue, not profit. If calculated on profit, Apple would be ranked #3. If calculated on stock valuation, rated #1.

This Fortune 500 ranking is strictly by revenue. Apple will reach #5 in revenue at the end of the current fiscal year (around $165 billion) and should overtake Exxon as #1 in profits (over $45 billion). Apple has been #1 in market cap for some time now.

Apple’s 2012 revenues already stand at almost $86 Billion and their profits are nearly equal to all of last year. At the end of this year Apple will be #10 in regard to revenue and easily #1 in profit when 2012 closes. Amazing growth.
