“France’s most famous designer Philippe Starck created a huge internet buzz among Apple fan boys over the weekend when he announced that he’s working on a ‘revolutionary’ project with the Palo Alto-based consumer electronics giant,” David Pearson reports for The Wall Street Journal.
“Unfortunately for them, the project has nothing to do with a new iPhone or the much-rumored Apple TV,” Pearson reports. “A spokeswoman for Starck confirmed that the project involves a yacht that’s being designed for Steve Jobs’ family.”

Maybe he should have written “reactionary tech-press jackwagons” instead of “Apple fan boys”, the latter of which understood that this was a red herring. The former? Now trying to eschew responsibility by using a term like “Apple fan boys”.

The buzz he hard was a raspberry being blown by those of us who were smart enough to realise that the story was rubbish. Apple would not need his input as it already employs the world-leading designer Jony Ive.
Starck’s designs are redolent with the stench of his ego. We look at these overwrought objects and hear Starck declaring “I am a genius!”
Jony Ive’s designs are quite the opposite. It is we who use these objects who declare his genius.
I believe Apple used Starck chairs in one of the “Hello, I’m a Mac” ads. The one where mac & PC are seeing a counselor.
I can’t believe I know that. Now I need counseling.
Philippe Starck has “designed” about 100 different chairs with a single common feature: You can’t sit on them comfortably for more than 2 minutes. That this publicity-crazy windbag associates himself with Apple doesn’t surprise me at all. But I never understood why Steve Jobs would ever let someone like Starck come near to him… There is a Grand Canyon between the design philosophies of Jonathan Ive and Philippe Starck. Perhaps the sad truth is that Steve Jobs actually did not have such a good idea on design as we all thought???
Maybe Starck is lying about the yacht as well.
And maybe also about what good buddies he and Steve were.

Forget the iYacht. I’m waiting for Apple’s iSail. Smooth lines courtesy of Johnny Ive. iPad handles navigation (there’s gotta’ be an app for that!) and communication. The auxiliary motor? Powered by fuel cells, of course. Something in the 25-27′ length for me, please.
