“Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook reportedly visited the Bellevue, Washington headquarters of Valve Corporation earlier today, inciting questions about new potential for collaboration between the two companies,” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider.
“Valve, created by two former Microsoft employees in the mid 90s, has grown into a major video games developer and maintains the Steam gaming platform, which distributes over 1,400 games to an audience of over 30 million active users,” Dilger reports. “Steam works similar to Apple’s iOS App Store within iTunes, providing a market for PC video game titles and a mechanism for automatically delivering the latest software updates to players.”

This will have far more value when Apple finally ships machines with better standard graphics cards.
An Apple TV with a decent graphics card as an option, would also be nice.
Maybe to beat valve over the head with the scrolling problem in the Mac version of steam…
More an more games being released on Mac, and steam helps that a lot.
Good. If Tim Cook can’t convince those slackers to finish Half Life 3, no one can.
Cookiewuss gets around don’t he.
… shows you looking like Judge C. Thomas just after losing a vote, but I don’t know you. So …
You do realize that gratuitous hate speech is generally frowned upon in polite society. Right? The fact that you are so ready, even eager, to put Tim Cook down suggests you feel yourself to be superior to him. Might I ask in what way you are superior? Do you make more money in a year? Have more direct and indirect reports? Get your name positively mentioned in the news more often?
My guess is: none of the above. You seem to feel it just isn’t RIGHT that a gay man should succeed better than a REAL man has. Like the Tea Party types are offended that a Black man has dared get elected to high office.
I don’t care what he is as long as he runs Apple in a way that makes Steve proud, and us stock holders richer.
Maybe they are going to replace Siri with GLaDOS…
And then there will be cake.
the cake is a lie 😉
No it’s not!
I feel obligated to post this…
😀
Just bring Battlefield 3 to the Mac.
May be Tim just want to use Valve’s restroom?! 🙂
This is exciting. I remember reading a story by Valve when they first released Steam for the Mac. They said they had tried to work with Apple for years to help get the Mac a bit more optimized for games and/or make the games optimized for the Mac. They said Apple had always slacked off after initially being interested.
Hope this means Apple will start making better graphics drivers.
Apple needs to make the best gaming machine on the planet.
Agree, would be nice to add that nail to the Microsoftian coffin.
I read yesterday that valve is considering the releasing a hardware platform for their steam, could apple be involved in that????
I was wondering the same thing. Apple has at least a few patents regarding wearable sensors for sports and games. Maybe apple is allowing Valve to license those patents in exchange for brining more games to Mac, and particularly to iOS.
