RUMOR: Apple to release new iMacs with new 22-nanometer Core i5, i7 CPUs in June or July

“Apple’s all-in-one desktop, the iMac, will receive an update with Intel’s next-generation Ivy Bridge CPUs in the June or July timeframe, according to a new rumor,” AppleInsider reports.

“The updated iMacs will be powered by Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, How To Arena reported on Wednesday, citing a ‘reliable tipster’ from the Chinese supply chain,” AppleInsider reports. “The new desktops will reportedly be powered by Intel’s 22-nanometer Ivy Bridge processors.”

AppleInsider reports, “If the timeframe is accurate, the new iMacs are expected to follow updated MacBook Pros to market. Reports have suggested that Apple plans to first update its 15-inch MacBook Pro with Ivy Bridge CPUs, followed by a refresh of the 13-inch model. Both are expected to launch in the coming months, and the 15-inch model could debut as soon as this month.”

  1. Lets hope also there is more to the new iMac other than faster processors. Add “tele-visionary” features and “maximo-licious” sizes to the iMac making it the complete home entertainment system. The iMacTV available in 30″, 40″ and 50″.

    1. … yes and no.
Yes. I’d like to see an updated Mac Pro. And I’d LOVE to see a “Mac Pro Mini Tower”. I don’t really expect the latter, though.
No. An updated iMac is nothing to yawn over. It may not be the Mini Tower we’d love to see. But it’s close. With that big screen? Maybe close is close enough.

      1. I fully understand your position, but I’ll agree to disagree. The all-in-one iMac is a far cry from a computer that offers expandability in the way of choices in connectivity, I/O, display(s), et cetera.

  2. I’m getting the current 21.5″ model as an Apple Certified Refurb, as soon as these new ones are released. Hopefully, it will go down to $899. Timing is good, because my sturdy old 17″ white (“late 2006”) iMac will not be able to run Mountain Lion.

  3. C’mon Apple, Bring on the new Mac Pro’s! We’re dying out here! Rackmountable, Mini-Towers, SSDs, Hot processors & video, multiple T-Bolt ports. . .any or all of the above, just get with the program. Help all of us professionals who have our tongues stickin’ out a yard!
