New iPad launch: Live from the streets

“Friday is D-day for consumers looking to get their hands on Apple’s third generation iPad, and lines are expected to be long because the device is already sold out online,” Marguerite Reardon, Roger Cheng and Josh Lowensohn report for CNET.

“Doors at Apple stores and most other retailers selling the new iPad open at 8 a.m. local time in nine countries, including the U.S., and two U.S. territories,” Reardon, Cheng and Lowensohn report. “The first iPad was already sold in Australia at a Telstra store that opened at midnight local time. Other countries getting the new iPad include: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, France, the U.K., and the U.S., along with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Reardon, Cheng and Lowensohn report, “CNET’s crew of reporters and photographers will be at the cube on Fifth Avenue documenting the expected long lines and protesters. We’ll also have coverage from Apple’s new Grand Central store in New York , as well from our reporters in San Francisco and Palo Alto, Calif., and Paris, too.”

  1. Mine just arrived via UPS!!!!!! Cloning it from my iPad2 right now.

It’s thicker by a sheet of paper. My Switcheasy™ case won’t fit. Good thing I ordered a different one.

It may be heavier on the spec list, but I can’t feel the difference.

  2. Been there since Monday ??? What a fool. Could probably leave Apple after he gets his ipad and walk into a Best Buy and pick one up later today. Sounds like there’s PLENTY of stock available in most places.

  3. Hmmm. I just picked up a black 64MB from Bestbuy in Orange CT. No waiting, just walked in the door asked if they had one, I was given a sheet of paper to bring to the counter in the computer department and walked out with it in about 5 min. No muss, no fuss!
