Apple sued over new iPad with LTE, accused of infringing 4G patents

“ADAPTIX Inc., of Dallas Texas is an award-winning technology company long recognized in the industry as one of the first developers of cutting edge OFDMA-based mobile wireless systems,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.

“The company claims to have conceived, built, and patented critical equipment and network features that form the foundation of today’s advanced 4G broadband wireless technology and systems,” Purcher reports. “Late Friday, the company launched a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple over their new iPad with LTE and Retina Display… It should be noted that ADAPTIX, Inc. was acquired by Acacia Research Corporation in January 2012. According Wikipedia, Acacia Research Corporation has adopted the business model known as patent trolling.”

MacDailyNews Take: FRANDelicious! Can the legal system get a handle on FRAND patents and royalties due and patent trolls, please! What a collosal waste of time, energy and money. Good thing Apple has a humungous war chest, so they can litigate patent trolls forever, if need be, and still not have their innovative energies sapped.

  1. I find it interesting that the suit was launched more than a week before an actual example of the device purporting to violate their patent was even available to the public.

So, how is it that they actually “know” there’s a violation?

    1. … Adaptix, was not a patent troll. Then along came: “It should be noted that ADAPTIX, Inc. was acquired by Acacia Research Corporation in January 2012. According Wikipedia, Acacia Research Corporation has adopted the business model known as patent trolling.” Voila! Apple – the primary deep-pockets entity in the 4G market – brings out a product claiming that feature. Get ’em while they’re hot!

  2. Isn’t it amazing how much fear Apple has caused the entire industry? One little company that did the right thing, build the best products for their customers are now targeted by just about everyone. Yet for years, they never sued any of the other big players making billions in the mobile/portable/gaming industry.

  3. Since apple is only a consumer of the 4G LTE and the wireless networks are the providers it makes more sense to sue the provider of a technology rather than the consumer of it.

  4. This could NOT be more hilarious:
“The company claims to have conceived . . . that form the foundation of today’s advanced 4G broadband wireless technology and systems

Seeing as there are ZERO actual 4G devices on the market today, that ‘4G’ continues to ONLY be a deceptive marketing hype term with no actual hardware available to run it:

    These guys are:
    (1) TechTard ILLITERATES
    (2) LIARS

Did they invent LTE Advanced (LTE-A)? No. That’s Qualcom tech. Did they invent 802.16? No, that’s an international standard tech. These are the only two upcoming ACTUAL 4G technologies on the horizon.

So go frack off ADAPTIX scammer scum!
More parasites after someone else’s treasure.
