Some casemakers suggest Apple’s next-gen iPad to be called ‘iPad HD’

Gizmodo is floating a rumor that the name for Apple’s next tablet will be iPad HD, rather than iPad 3. They base this information on alleged part listings from Griffin and Belkin,” Jordan Golson reports for MacRumors.

  1. Eh, if they call it iPad HD, then what do they call the next one? If they just call it iPad 4, then idiot consumers will wonder why it’s not “HD” anymore. And “iPad HD 2” just doesn’t sound very good, although it might make said consumers think there’s twice as many HD’s inside.

    1. Don’t worry about it… “Consumers” don’t think that much about the name and how it relates to previous (and next) names. What happened to “iPhone 2”? No one cared…

AND, this is just another silly rumor, from people running web sites who just what hits to their web site.

  2. I have always known it wouldn’t be named iPad 3. Sine the Apple 3 failed nothing important at Apple as been a “3.” Ever hear of a Mac 3? There ws a Mac 2 and then a Mac 4 sort of (quadra). I wouldn’t count the iPhone 3G as a “3” since it refers to a type of network and was the second iPhone.

  3. Well, it could make sense if the iPad 2 becomes just the iPad and sits at the lower ($449) price point, and the retina iPad HD sits at a higher ($579) price point than a similarly equipped iPad 2 did this year.

  4. Apple should just drop “i”. They can replace it with any letter they want, aPad, aaplPad, αPad, 苹Pad. Just make sure this time they trademark which ever letter/font they choose.
