Obama’s privacy plan puts pinch on Google

“Google’s trickery of tracking users of Apple’s (AAPL) Macs, iPhones and iPads without their knowledge or permission recently raised a firestorm when Jonathan Mayer of Stanford University found that Google intentionally circumvented Safari’s privacy feature,” Nigam Arora writes for Forbes. “Caught red-handed, Google offered a convoluted explanation.”

“President Obama has stepped in to slay Google’s privacy violations, introducing on Thursday a Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights,” Arora writes. “Unfortunately the monster will not be slayed easily. First, Google has plenty of tricks up its sleeve to give lip service to the bill but circumvent its spirit. Second, Google has plenty of money to engage the best lobbyists to water down the bill.”

Arora writes, “Google has diversified but its bread and butter is still search. If Google cannot track, it dilutes its offerings of targeted advertisements. The stronger the bill, the more detrimental it will be to Google’s financial performance.”

      1. Us ‘Limey’s’ have the same fucking language, you ignorant redneck. It’s called ‘English’ for a very good reason; the Pilgrim Fathers who founded your damned nation, came from England.
        Fuckwit.

  1. Which side of the fence?

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Republican doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a Democrat doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrats demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

      1. Yeah too bad for you it’s highly accurate and makes perfect sense – BUSTED!!

(Love how everything they say is the “factual truth” and everything the other side says is “propaganda.”)

    1. As a liberal Democrat, I believe everyone should be able to have any and every sort of gun available. My weapon of choice is the German 88 from WWII, and you can take it from me when you peel my cold, dead fingers off of its barrel.

    2. the flaw is:

If a Republican doesn’t want abortion, he outlaws the policy.
If a Democrat doesn’t want one, he allows choice and chooses not to.

If a Republican doesn’t want a homosexual marriage, he outlaws the practice.
If a Democrat doesn’t want a homosexual marriage, he chooses a woman to marry.

If a Republican doesn’t want clean air and water, they prohibit laws on clean air.
If a Democrat doesn’t want clean air and water, they stop breathing.

If a Republican doesn’t want women access to health care, he outlaws private medical advice between a woman and her doctor.
If a Democrat doesn’t want access to women’s healthcare, they chose not to get it.

If Republican is a believer, he forces that on all.
If a Democrat is a non believer, he feels that like the constitution says, the government shall not create a state religion.

this game can go on and on. In general, Republicans want small government. Small enough to fit in the bedroom. In general, they want free business. So much so that business has no controls whatsoever. Even to the point of fraud, deceit and avarice.

Are Dems irresponsible at times? Sure. But in general, they aim “to promote the general welfare of the people.” Are Republicans Good at times? Sure, but in general, they remove many helpful programs: Education, Clean Air, Water, Clean energy, controls on investing, fraud, banking, etc.

      Can both be better, sure.
Flat tax, term limits, Mandatory publicly funded elections with no outside money allowed.

      1. If a democrat wants to have unprotected sex left and right, create a life, then murder it, it gets an abortion.

Abortion is a state by state issue, period. Get a grip commies.

Statists hate traditional families. They are out to destroy them and make everyone look to the state as their “parents”. They know a strong family is an obstacle to their power grabs.

Democrats do nothing to help people help themselves. They flat out steal from the producers to give to the lazy, parasites. We are going to run out of other people’s money very soon you freaking nimrods.

    3. Which side of the fence?

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If you’re secure about your political beliefs, you don’t go around copy & pasting propaganda in support of your chosen party on random websites.
If you’re insecure as all hell about your political beliefs and seriously doubt their validity deep down, you do. Frequently.

    4. It is so easy to play this game, Billy Ray Bob. Let’s imagine for a moment that Republicans are not all like Bri Hodges on Desperate Housewives…

Which side of the electrified fence?

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Republican doesn’t like guns, he acts like he does like them so he fits in.
If a Democrat doesn’t like guns, he votes for gun control to keep the crazy ones off of the streets.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he pretends to eat meat so he fits in.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he packs his own lunch.

If a Republican is homosexual, he leads a life of silent desperation wondering why his political party treats him like a leper.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legitimate respect for equal rights under the law.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he blames a Democrat.
If a Democrat is down-and-out, he gets a helping hand from his friends to get back on his feet.

If a Republican doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels until he finds one that never challenges his beliefs.
If a Democrat doesn’t like a talk show host, he may listen anyway if the host presents reasoned and logical ideas.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he goes to a Christian church for appearances sake and wonders why he supports a party that wants to establish a Christian state against the letter and spirit of the Constitution.
If a Democrat is a non-believer, he just wants that non-belief to be respected , and extends the same courtesy in return to believers of all faiths.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he can’t find a job that provides it because he helped kill all of the unions and the “job providers” subsequently eliminated or massively reduced health insurance benefits.
A Democrat believes that a basic level of health care should be available to all, and that an administratively top-heavy system that profits from denying legitimate health care benefits and excluding the unhealthy is inhuman.

If a Republican wants a better education for his children, he cries for vouchers so that he can send his kids to a private school while undermining the public education system.
If a Democrat wants a better education for his children, he works with his community to improve public schools for the benefit of everyone and volunteers his own time.

Do I believe all of this? Of course not. There are reasonable and unreasonable people in both parties. The difference seems to be that many ultra-conservatives seem to feel that they have a monopoly on right and reason and that everyone else is scum.

      1. That was so incredibly lame and off the mark Queen Smell. You freak. A democrat believes that his neighbor’s hard work and private property and rights are there for the taking and will do everything possible to steal them from the hard working neighbor. SCREW YOU you COMMIE!!!!!

        1. My comments were a parody of Billy Ray, although some of it obviously hit far too close to the mark, huh? As I said, I believe that there are reasonable and unreasonable people in both parties. You are not one of them. I would not want anything that you have touched or anything that was in any way was associated with you, anonymous loser.

Too many Republicans live in fear that others are going to take their stuff away. It is all about owning things with money the proxy for power and security. Often it seems that the more people have, the more they fear to lose it.

Some of the most generous people I know had relatively little. But they were willing to share. The people who grew up during the Depression, like my father, know what it is like to have little or nothing – and they do not fear it. They have a mentality of doing things yourself and saving and avoiding debt except where necessary. And when people need a helping hand, they give it because that is what it means to be a compassionate human being.

It is impossible to reconcile the contradictions inherent within the Republican party. On the one hand you have the strong Christian influence, which preaches generosity, compassion, tolerance, brotherhood, and forgiveness. On the other, you have selfishness, greed, warmongering, intolerance, and so forth.

You can call me anything that you like, anonymous idiot. But it won’t do anything except reinforce your small-minded delusions that you matter to anyone but yourself.

        2. Queen Smell’s a girly man!!!!!

Keep blaming Republicans genius. You have it completely backwards. Republicans give more to charity than any dirt ball liberal. Biden’s, Maobama, and friends give nothing to charity. You suck Queeny.

And Hillary is doing some war mongering now you deranged ahole.

      1. I wouldn’t say abortion is about live and let live. Quite the opposite. The woman who founded Planned Parenthood and pushed for abortion was doing it to limit minorities if you liberals remember and she was one of you liberals.

      1. If a white person bitches about a black politician, they are a racist.

If a person of color bitches about a white politician, they are expressing a political opinion.

Do you liberals realize how stupid you are?

  2. The Right and the Left can no longer be trusted to work together. The Republicans and the Democrats can no longer be trusted to work together. We are all suffering from the type of partisan drivel on exhibit here……..

For the good of our country – VOTE INDEPENDENT!!!!

        1. Hardly, Independents are Pussies who can’t take a stand on anything. Losers. Independents are almost as bad as the commies. Wishy washy, no balls, sissies.

      1. It doesn’t matter. It’s just entertaining, in a sort of watching monkeys throw feces at each other kind of way.

althegeo, I wish I can make a witty response, but maybe I’m just an old, but honestly, I don’t know what that means. Are you saying you are bending over because I did it first?

  3. Wow, sure isn’t safe to say anything critical about Ohbummer.

You see, it was quite alright to call Bush Hitler and the devil etc. but man if u mention a black man in yo headline, u sure are a crackin racist.

  4. I don’t believe you will find the Obama administration coming down too hard on Google.

Google is in the administration’s pocket and Google is already filtering out any anti-Obama mail for Obama. Why do I believe this? I have personally had mail that I send out to a group filtered by Google on a half dozen occasions

. If I send email to a group with any anti-Obama comments and the email has Obama named in the subject, all on my group with gmail accounts are replied with the mail has been rejected and not sent. If I remove Obama from the subject and resend it, it goes through.

  5. “Google has diversified but ”

But nothing.. Google makes 99.999999999999% of it’s money from search and related advertising. Search IS it’s business model. Without search-ads, they are not a company. They do not exist.

    Diversified my ass.

  6. Really, MDN? When all I did was mention that you put Obama’s name in a headline, you delete my post but keep the responses? Stay classy.

    [Comment to be deleted in 5… 4… 3… ]

  7. Glad I’ve got some popcorn and a good beer. You can’t find better entertainment than these posts. Oh, wait. I can find better. There’s a patch of paint drying over there…

    1. Why do I find you so funny when you say things like this? And why do I find myself drawn to these pagan spectacles? And why is there air?

Note to self: obtain help soon

        1. It’s about time, Obama has done nothing to help blacks help themselves. He’s made things much worse for them. Every democrat controlled area of the country is a cesspool. And blacks tend to call other blacks that have common sense uncle toms or sell outs, JaneyShepard.

        2. @Froid

I recall that Bill Cosby was labeled an Uncle Tom or sell-out by some black activists a few years ago, just as you say. At the time I had to admire Cosby for speaking his mind about an important social issue that liberals had been afraid to touch—black parenting.

Rush defended Bill Cosby for that, and both took heat from the left. But awareness was raised considerably, and even heated dialog is superior to doing NOTHING and pretending the problem ISN’T THERE.

  8. Google keeps getting caught stealing private and confidential information, be it from stealing wifi information from so called vans being driven around listening to and gathering ALL wifi signals across USA and Canada, all their constant whining that Apple steals from them, and of course this treat… What can we do to kill Google. End it completely? And why doesn’t american “justice” do anything about all this corruption? Is justice blind because Google hacked her too? You guys will jail for truly petty things, but the creeps at Google can go on? Nice.
On a side note… has anyone else noticed that youtube ( which is of course connected with Google) is dodgy on Safari? I love how they also display banners claiming how Chrome is 10x better than Safari… ummm wow. It’s slow and craptastic ( i guess all the revenue ads they have to force install on each page so they get paid for the ads even when we ignore the ads) and I wonder if its because Google is trying to trick Safari users into switching… ohh youtube is slow today, but look an ad for free download of Chrome!

    1. How about that Deathstar? By the way, did you see the recent cost estimate for the Deathstar? $8.1 quadrillion! Now, THAT’S government spending the Rethuglicans could probably get behind… but health care? No way.

      1. It’s not healthcare you will be getting shit for brains. It’s called liberal control and begging for horrific, non medical care. Ever been to the motor vehicle department?????????????? You would never, ever, want the government in charge of your healthcare. They will destroy it and the US. You stupid, ignorant commie.
