Al Gore accused of abusing his Apple Board of Directors position for personal gain (with video)

Tom Borelli, National Center for Public Policy director and Apple shareholder, discusses why he is accusing Al Gore of violating Apple’s trade policies, and why he is bringing this up at the company’s shareholder meeting:

What we know is Al Gore has huge investments in renewable energy. We also know that you need legislation, “Cap and Trade” or mandates, for those investments to get a profit. And then magically, all of a sudden during the big climate debate, Apple dropped its membership in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce was leading the attack to block “Cap and Trade.” So we think Al Gore somehow was involved with the company dropping its membership. – Tom Borelli

Apple Inc.’s Statement in Opposition to Proposal No. 4 reads in part:

The Company is committed to transparent corporate governance practices and to policies that promote the accountability of its Board. The Company does not believe that the report advocated in Proposal No. 4 is either a necessary or a useful undertaking to foster transparency or accountability at the Board level. The Company already has a robust set of policies and procedures in place to identify and address conflicts of interest by its directors, and the intent of the proposal is already substantially implemented.

Apple’s annual meeting of shareholders is scheduled for February 23, 2012.

    1. Yeah, I didn’t notice that either, Chrissy. Seems to me it was this guy over in Iraq that started it, and the guy from the oil family was the one who smacked him down, after which the price of oil went down.

        1. Yes, it was us ‘disgusting lying filth’ Liberals who lied us into invading Iraq. Gotcha.

Oh, and by the way, the founders of the US were liberal – they believed in human rights and the right to self-determination. They fought against the conservatives of their time, the British Empire.

I’m a liberal porker…and damn proud of it. I publicly opposed going to war with Iraq back when that wasn’t a popular opinion to express. Everything that has happened since Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq has proven me right. If that’s being ‘lying filth’, then I’m feeling darned peachy in my wallow.

          Oink.

        2. Sadly, many Democratic Senators voted to pass the Iraq War Resolution, but 21 of them voted ‘no’. One Republican, Chafee of RI, also voted against the resolution. In the House, 126 Democrats and six Republicans voted ‘no’.

        3. Arnold Sniffel loved Saddam Hussein. Poor Arnold. Arnold was for all of the human horror Saddam was raining down on his people and threatening other neighboring countries as well as ignoring UN sanctions. Poor Arnold.

        4. I am always opposed to stupid, immoral, idiotic, wasteful, and unnecessary wars.

Yes, Iraqis had a grand old time during the invasion, civil war, and aftermath – four million people left homeless, one million Iraqis lost their lives as a result of the war, heaven knows how many Iraqis were rounded up, imprisoned, and tortured. We’ve spent at minimum $800 billion dollars on the war, with the total being at least $3 trillion when cost of healthcare, etc., is taken into account. And we have lost 4,485 American soldiers.

And remember, this was to go after a country that had no means to attack the US in any meaningful way. There were no so-called “WMDs” found in Iraq, and even if they had been, Iraq had no way to deliver them more than a few hundred miles, never mind the 6,000 miles or so to make it to the US.

You don’t know me, and you sure don’t seem to be aware of the realities of the Iraq War.

        5. Arnold Sniffel does love dictators and Marxists. Saddam moved his WMDs to Syria. Proven fact. Now your Communist Hero, Hillary Clinton, is trying to set up the invasion of Syria! Go Arnold and Comrades!!!!!!!!!! Losers.

        6. Wow, Lemon Squeeze,

Yeah, the WMDs were shipped out of Iraq. Right. I suggest to read through the Duelfer Report before you start spouting stuff you have no idea about.

As I said, even if Iraq has so-called weapons of mass destruction, they had no way to deliver them anywhere close to the US mainland. Hussein’s Iraq posed no meaningful threat to us. If you’ll check, at the time Bush ordered the invasion, the US was outspending Iraq by a factor of 100X. Bush ordered the invasion because there were people in the Pentagon and the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex who wanted war with Iraq, plain and simple.

As for wanting war with Syria – you are 100% mistaken. I’m sick of our wasteful, idiotic wars. Let’s stay out of Syria, withdraw completely from Afghanistan, and try genuine diplomacy for a change. The last thing we (and the rest of the world) needs now is war with Iran.

        1. What the hell are you talking about?????? Liberals were completely on board with taking out Saddam. He invaded another country and contently violated UN sanctions. The problem is that part of the world is loaded with Islamic lunatics that don’t value freedom or human rights. They can’t help themselves and want to blame Israel and the US for all of their problems. Their problem is themselves. Just like you liberal robots. You need a reality check lady.

        2. It hurts to even read what you wrote. I can’t imagine how it feels to be that stupid.
Yes, they can’t help themselves. They really are as 2 dimensional as you’ve been taught to believe. You make a great parrot.

          PRETTY BIRD!!!!

        3. You eat cat litter, and your children smell like kelp! Flies drop out of the air dead around you! You’ve cause crop failure in Uruguay, and still you dump toxic waste in Emdiennia! Only a fool would listen to your parrot squawking!

        4. Poor Chrissy’s liberal fantasy world is falling apart all around her…. Pretty sad when reality finally hits isn’t it Chrissy. Liberalism doesn’t work and is a means to an end to Dictatorship!

  1. Gore should remain — IF he has the courage to push Apple to use its massive profit stockpile and industry-leading position to establish fair labour practices by its suppliers. If Apple management can go apoplectic and get workers up in the middle of the night to make iPad screens perfect, they can put equivalent focus on ensuring fair labour practices. If Gore doesn’t have the courage to push for this, then he should step down — and so should all the rest of the directors.

  2. Let me start by saying that I’m a conservative, so you know up front that I’m somewhat biased in this post.

No one with any intelligence at all doubts that our climate is changing; it’s obvious from simple observation.

However, given that that same simple observation tells us that the climate on Mars is changing in the same manner (given the differences in the planets themselves), attributing the major part of this climate change to the actions of man is, to say the least, in question.

However, Al Gore has staked his reputation on this questionable proposition. Especially with Steve gone, I don’t think that a person who refuses to back down from this position of questionable judgment belongs on Apple’s board.

    1. emmayche,

Don’t waste your time trying to explain anything to the commie drones. They won’t listen to the facts. They can all rot in hell. November will be fun to watch them all crawl back into their holes.

  3. Why not ? Gore has spread lies and fraudulent information about the environment and climate for his own personal gains.

Climate chnage is the very nature of weather !! It has been happening for millions of years and the climate will continue to change long after we become extinct.

  4. Got his ass handed to him at the stockholders meeting where only 1% of shareholders sided with him. What an ass hole. One shareholder stood up and said we should all leave Al alone since he had to endu what happened in 2000.

  5. The chamber is simply a mob like group that feels you have to pay their fee to stay in business. They don’t like the idea that Apple is bigger than they ever could be and told them to piss off. It sounds like rich people whining to me.

  6. Al Gore is one of biggest hypocrites around. Houses all around the country using up fuel, private jets everywhere he goes, making money off of his cap and trade energy credit deals. Go away, Al.

  7. It is funny that the democrat party that vilifies money, the making of money and the rich, supports Awol Gores profiting hundreds of millions of dollars from questionable global theories. He vilifies the rich and he is rich himself.

  8. All you haters of Al Gore ought to go sit in a tree with your local republican congressman because you don’t give a rats ass about the environment because if you all did, you wouldn’t be foaming at the mouth about Al Gore. All these decisions about the environment or the chamber of commerce isn’t Al’s doing, Steve Job also made the decision. Apple has always been about the environment and when one group is against it, what the point of staying with it?

Sigh all you o you are Al Gore haters go crawl back under the rock you came from because you are all a bunch of right wing nuts!!!

    1. Yeah right, Republicans don’t care about the environment mantra. BS. Republicans absolutely care about the environment. We don’t let you enviro-nazis hijack the cause and use it to destroy the economy and the US Constitution. You commies are out of freaking control.

  9. When I want to laugh and remind how bizarre are the US people, I come to read a bit of Macdailynews commentaries which are becoming more and more out of tracks. Stupid things are coming from every side, it is really unbelievable, and quite funny, I have to admit.

“Commies”, “Marxist”… whatever the call, this is really looking like hell and paradise… (here what you call commies, marxist… are the people who cares about the others, while the so “economic” portion of our society, simply don’t ! They care only about their pocket ! Not even their child. Still don’t understand why they reproduce when they don’t give a fuck about the future…)

Frankly how could you still believe in these fairy tales : remember that man created gods many, many thousands years ago. By that time knowledge and science wasn’t that great, so we had to find some kind of explanation for fire, water, and everything…

Then, a bit more than a thousand years ago “leaders” decided that it would be easier to manipulate the people by getting rids of the numerous gods : one would be better to run…

“Weather changes are natural… How come the humans have an impact ?” : Wow ! Triple wow ! Yep, the weather has always changed. But it takes thousands of years to do so, not just 35 !

Oh yes, “we believes in documented facts…” 🙂

Anyway, I’m way out of the subject… Are we all serious ?

    1. Ron, you commie, Go screw yourself and crawl back under your rock in whatever hell hole part of the world you hail from. You like to steal from your neighbor you Marxist-Commie. You are so far gone brain washed it’s scary. Up yours.
