“China Telecom Corp Ltd, the nation’s third-largest mobile operator, revealed it may launch the code division multiple access (CDMA) version of Apple Inc’s iPhone 4S in the Chinese mainland as early as February,” Shen Jingting reports for China Daily.
“In a news release on Monday, Beijing Telecom Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Telecom, said the CDMA-version iPhone 4S is likely to hit the domestic market by the end of February, or at the beginning of March… No pricing details were disclosed,” Jingting reports. “‘China Telecom has already started preparatory work for the launch of the iPhone 4S,’ according to the press release.”
Jingting reports, “For Apple, offering an iPhone compatible with China Telecom’s technology could encourage the use of the device by tens of millions of mobile subscribers.”

When the Chinese regulatory agency approved the CDMA iPhone, recently, it was only a matter of a few weeks before we get the China Telecom announcement.
I’m guessing the China Mobile announcement won’t happen until iPhone 5, since they need a home-grown standard TD-SCDMA chipset included.
On the conference call, Tim Cook said he underestimated the Chinese market. I’ll bet he learned his lesson…
I wonder how much that will raise the share price?
If past practice is any indicator, the stock will fall. Wall Street never fails to punish AAPL for being successful for radically changing the face of business.
