“According to Korea’s Electronic Times Internet News, it’s been confirmed that Samsung Electronics and LG Display will supply LCD panels for Apple’s iPad 3, which is scheduled to be unveiled as early as in Q1 this year,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple. “Sharp was originally known to be developing display panels, but reportedly failed in initial supply.”
Purcher reports, “This same report goes on to state that ‘Sharp has competed with Samsung Electronics and LG Display over the development of display panels for the iPad 3, but reportedly failed to pass Apple’s approval process for mass production. Sharp has worked on developing high resolution panels on the basis of oxide semiconductor TFTs.'”

Looks like Sharp just missed their big chance at a huge contract. I’m sure I’ll be happy with LG or Samsung. I was HOPING that the problems I’d read about the Sharp process not being mass marketable weren’t true. 🙁
I bet that was one interesting meeting to listen in on.
The big question is, will MDN extend their “boycott” to the Samsung-paneled iPad 3? Lol.
Irrelevant, since Samsung already produces the A4 and A5 (and probably the next A6) chips for Apple, that go into every current iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, Apple TV, and iPod touch. And they produce a large portion of the flash-based storage used by Apple. And probably many other components…
Which is why the whole idea of a “Samsung boycott” by Apple fans is itself mostly irrelevant.
The boycott is on consumer products. We can’t help that Samsung is producing the chips in Apple products but we can hope that this changes soon.
Its not the individual components that are a problem, they are produced by separate companies within Samsung.
I bought a 50 in Samsung tv and it failed 13 months later. The power supply caps were rated at 10 volts for a 16 volt supply. The repair guy already had the 25 volt rated caps that should have been in there to begin with.
Samsung consumer products…. building crap cause they know they can get away with it. No Honor involved, just cheap copy.
Just a thought,
Not good if true. Apple wants to be able to say fsck off to the likes of Samsung and Google, but they clearly can’t afford to cut them out just yet. For Sharp, this is disgraceful (again if true).
These gossips do not have much credibility at all. So no point to seriously ponder what the rumour says. The more so Samsung does not have license for IPS technology (last year they made their illegal copycat PLS technology so to avoid paying patent fees to Hitachi Display).
Patience.
Apple will tell Samdung to f*ck off one day hopefully soon.
Google is evil… they will crumble also.
Apple supposedly pre-paid a lot of money to Sharp for displays. They will be delivering something for Apple.
Apple TVs
Baloney.
Digitimes is not credible. If true though, it is the height of stupidity on the part of aplple management.
I take that back. The article is from Korea. Less credible.
They can write this stuff knowing the timidity of apple to respond.
