Mac App Store celebrates first anniversary with over 8,900 apps

“The Mac App Store is today celebrating its first anniversary,” MacNN reports.

“At first the storefront was only accessible through a Snow Leopard update; access has since been built into OS X Lion, which itself was originally made available as a Mac App Store download,” MacNN reports. “In mid-December announced that it had surpassed 100 million downloads at the store, not including app updates or even Lion sales.”

MacNN reports, “AppShopper notes that the Mac App Store has reached over 8,900 available apps.”

  1. I note that Apple, or whoever actually runs the Mac App Store, has attempted to get up-to-date with app version. About fracking time! You can now download the Lion compatible versions of the Amazon Kindle App. Wow. 😉

Sadly, the staff there remain the same old drones who also run the iTunes Store, about the calibre one expects from minimum wage kids. 😯

Taking improvements into account, I hereby raise my personal rating of the Mac App Store from zero apples to two apples. 

    My wishes for 2012:
    1) A better written, faster and more reliable App Store app.
    2) Improved staffing quality.
    3) Better knowledge within the app of what you already have installed on your Mac.
    4) A Wish List feature, just like the one in the iTunes app.
    5) A special section dedicated to Open Source apps and utilities with an effort to make it comprehensive.

  2. We Do Miss You Steve! Long live Apple and the incredible team you put together that pushes the technological envelope and puts quality ahead of monetary gain. And no, I don’t feel guilty about believing in you and Apple in becoming wealthy investing in your foresight. Long Live STEVE. We’ll never forget you or your passion.

  3. Since it was launched, I’ve gotten 45 apps that I thought I wouldn’t need, but have turned out surprisingly useful. Some were paid, others free…

🙂 Thanks, Steve, for bringing us this app store 🙂 Rest in Peace.
