360-degree panorama of Grand Central Station Apple Store viewable on iOS devices

“Apple has posted a 360-degree panoramic view of the Grand Central Station Apple Store up on the Apple Store website,” George Wong reports for Ubergizmo.

“All you have to do is visit the website with your iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad), and select the photograph marked ‘360,’” Wong reports. “Upon selecting it, the picture will open and you’ll be able to check it out.\”

Wong reports, “The panorama photograph takes advantage of your iOS device’s gyroscope, so if you want to look around, just move your device around as though you were actually standing on the spot.”

  1. Well, it’s all good, really nice store fantastic. Except that the crappy MDN app crashes when I click on that photo. And really, the MDN app is on of the worst Apps in the App store. It’s buggy, lacks standard features, NO
OFFLINE READING SUPPORT, the article save feature is buggy and useless but MDN does not seem to care. The only good thing with the MDN app is the push notification system. Without it the app is trash.

    1. I always copy the link while in the app.

      MDN abandoned the app…

I love how they “had a poll” to see who uses the app… Oh but wait, those that USE the app don’t see the polls……

I like the app MUCH better than the mobile site..

      1. Ditto. There’s an option to turn off the mobile version of the site, but it never remembers my choice. Very frustrating! What’s the point of having an incredible browser on my iPhone when I’m always forced to use the crappy mobile version?

  2. KarlV, I’m surprised your post is still up there. MDN doesn’t care about anything but ad revenue. Sure, they are passionate about anything Apple, but they are the biggest hypocrites. They melt over Apple’s pursuit of “clean and perfect”, but MDN’s website (design and experience) is everything except that. I wouldn’t expect anything more from their mobile. It’s a shame, but they seem to be successful and keeping their readership (including me), so don’t expect that the change anytime soon.

  3. @KarlV & coolfactor: Since you guys are such bona fide experts in website design and application functionality, you really should contact the administrators here and offer your services! Or, wait for it . . . perhaps you should create your very OWN site and compete directly with MDN for viewership! Or would you just prefer to beat your chests with your supposed acumen and analytical skills and POSE as superior beings? [Gawd, but I am so very tired of reading posts by anonymous “geniuses” who can find fault so easily in others and not themselves. It’s back to Mom’s basement, boys. Get your jammies on and snuggle up with a good Harry Potter. You’ll feel better tomorrow.]

    1. So, what you’re saying is, that unless we can do better ourselves, we should shut up? I don’t understand your logic! There’s always room for improvement in something. In fact, Steve Jobs didn’t do much of the grunt work in designing apple products. He had the vision and knew who could get it done.

  4. btw, the 360° thing works on both iPhone 4 and 4s here but not the first gen iPad.. just crashes every time.
I’ve had similar reports from friends using first gen iPads, iPhone 3G and 3G[s].

    1. it worked fine on my iPhone (only place i viewed it)

neat that you can swipe with your fingers to see the entire scene, OR… just move the phone around to view.

I want to see the sales numbers for that store in a year… huge traffic area.
