Apple submits updated Mothership campus plans to Cupertino, reveals stunning renderings

“Steve Jobs surprised the Cupertino City Council when he personally showed up to explain and debut plans for a new massive Apple Campus 2,” Gary Ng reports for iPhoneinCanada.

“The original campus plans were submitted back in the summer, and residents were able to participate in an environmental impact report as well,” Ng reports. “The City of Cupertino has posted the updated documents Apple submitted, dated November 4, 2011.”

Ng reports, “These new plans are massive 40MB+ .PDF files in high detail and document the entire floor plans of the campus. Apple Campus 2 will be ‘an integrated 21st century campus surrounded by green space, and will consist of 2.8 million square feet over four stories, and accommodate up to 13,000 employees. The campus will be extremely green and have beautiful natural surroundings, as 6000 various species of trees will adorn the entire campus, as implemented by the senior arborist from Stanford hired for the project.”

  1. Now we REALLY can visit the Mothership! Looks like it just landed in that pic. Hope the store where we get to buy all our Apple logo stuff will be re-located to this building.

Only sad part: Wish Steve was going to be around to see this become a reality. : ( Maybe it’s construction will set up vibes to bring his spirit back to us. : ) Like building ET’s communication device.

  2. Why have 6000 species of trees rather than a dozen or so local native varieties? Sounds exorbitant in terms of research, installation and maintenance. Is Apple a botanical garden or a gadget company? How much is this type of thinking throughout the campus project going to inflate Apple’s overhead and the price of future products?

This kind of response shows up and could be asked about the MYC Grand Central store, about almost any Apple store which could certainly be designed along the lines of, say, J. C. Penny, of the NYC Cube store, of hiring tens of thousands of workers and geniuses when a smaller number would equal what’s found in most tech stores, and on and on.
And to appeal to the masses the argument…’inflate Apple’s overhead and the price of future products…” as a scare tactic to innovate only calls to just keep this kind of thinker out of Apple strategy. Design and execution works well.

If this had happened in the past few days, then it would be no wonder they were surprised.
