Apple’s iPhone tops Yahoo’s Top 10 Search Terms of 2011, beats out Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, and Katy Perry

“The top search term of 2011 wasn’t a person or a news event. It was a technological marvel,” Vera H-C Chan reports for Yahoo.

“In the 11 years that Yahoo! has compiled its annual list of top searches, PlayStation 2 (2001 and 2002) is the only other device to have captured the top slot,” Chan reports. “The iPhone has been around for four years, but this year marked the first time service was available through providers other than AT&T. The iPhone 4S was released in black and white versions and offered a talking personal assistant called Siri, boosting consumer anticipation.”

Chan reports, “But the iPhone transcends gadget status. It helped facilitate political movements around the world, and it embodied the vision of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who stepped down as the company’s CEO in August and died on October 5.”

    1. Jay Leno asked people on the street how far away Florida was from LA. AND they had three choices!!! 100, 300 or 3000 miles. Only one out of the several asked got it right. Sorry for the bad news, but I think this Yahoo list is not something aberrant.
      Brilliant and amusing take, MDN.
