“Apple has a plan to bring better education to children worldwide, combining its years of education solutions experience with the iPad and solar panels to develop schools you can put anywhere with sunshine,” Jonny Evans reports for Computerworld.
“In Zimbabwe, Apple is working with government education ministers to deliver a solar-powered education system, consisting of a solar powered device, micro projectors and a bunch of iPads,” Evans reports. “Dubbed the ‘School Box’, Zimbabwe’s Education, Sport, Arts and Culture minister David Coltart traveled to Paris to meet with Apple to discuss the solution.”
Evans reports, “Given that broadband access in some parts of the world is inevitably going to be based on mobile signals, these iPads are likely to connect to the Internet via 3G. I can imagine the School Box may also act as a femtocell device, enabling a single broadband connection to be shared between students.”

maybe if you thought about it, educating a new generation of the population will allow them in the future to come out of the repression from not being educated and new leaders will be groomed by being able to be educated about the world and democracy. Its called a plan.
I’ve been to Zimbabwe several times. Mugabe is not a ‘Commie’ but a ruthless, brutal, self-interested dictator. If the ordinary people benefit from this initiative, then that is a plus. Apple, the largest or 2nd largest company on the planet does its research. X knows better? And keep knee-jerk politics off this Mac blog. Please.
