ArchiCAD-maker Graphisoft to erect Steve Jobs statue

“Listed Hungarian IT company Graphisoft SE said it will erect a statue to commemorate Steve Jobs, the tech pioneer who died on Oct. 5 after a battle with cancer,” Veronika Gulyas reports for The Wall Street Journal.

“‘Graphisoft considers Steve Jobs the greatest hero of information age,’ the company said in a statement,” Gulyas reports. “Graphisoft said Mr. Jobs played a major role in the global success of its architectural design software, ArchiCAD… Apple gave us cash and computers at a time when Graphisoft was a young company with very limited resources; the technology represented by those computers wasn’t available in our part of the world,’ Graphisoft said. ‘Many say that Steve Jobs’ greatest merit was his vision: he understood where the world was headed. But we believe there is more to it. Steve not only understood where the world was going; he shaped its future,'”

Gulyas reports, “The statue, to be inaugurated Dec. 21, will be erected in a science park that hosts several information technology companies, including Graphisoft.”

    1. Maybe so – but these guys are in Hungary, where they haven’t yet learned to disregard the debts they owe to those who helped them. I think it’s entirely appropriate for them to do.

  1. wait… didn’t the guy from the Washington Compost (it’s been 2-3 days and already forgot the idiots name) say SJ would be just a footnote? and nobody would know who he was in 100 years?

so I take it this stature will be only up for 99 years, and will be without any description…

  2. Don’t get me started on where HER husband was taking the country. Worst pres. we ever had. And I’ve voted both Dem. and Rep. so I am loyal to neither. I see them as individuals, hate the party system.

  3. Sorry, but Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon was the worst U.S. president ever. Jimmy Carter may not have been the best, but at least the guy was basically honest, and respected the Constitution. Sheesh.

  4. One of the saddest thing about Jobs departure is that I fell the world (me included) didn’t thank him enough for everything he has done for us.
I really wish Steve could see that statue and all our apreciation.

    Thanks again Steve.

  5. Where’s my statue? I gave a Mac SE and lots of other gear to two Hungarian students from Georgetown back in 1990, for free. I had posted it on several bulletin boards for sale. They came, and offered me a little less than what I asked, but I felt so sorry for them, I gave it to them for free.

  6. shame on us Americans & Obama for not showing equal respect to Steve Jobs.

we’re too late, as foreigners showed us the way:
    1. Oct 13 Russian pres. Medvedev pays national tribute! the sole world leader with balls & appreciation. http://j.mp/mQf4nB
    2. Oct 14 Hungarian Graphisoft bows to Steve jobs: everyone should sculpt & erect a Jobsian statue

shame on us Americans who are naysayers of Apple/Jobs or haters, shame on us for saying Jobs will no make history books as Edison etc. & Jobs was insignificant or invented nada.

shame because we’re too stupid, blind, unimaginative, uneducated to see his genius & generosity. that was his beauty. unlike Bill Gates that flaunts his name in his Foundation, Steve gave transparently, privately, from his heart & soul. not just charity. he gave more free tools to pros in need, inspired careers, gave to the people, more than anyone. it is because he gave transparently, and because everything we hate about him yet use the competitive products for, is inspired & influenced by his efforts, his actualization of dreams. he changed 6 industries, unrelated. that is astounding. you try to change one company or family or person!

anyway, a statue would show respect. Steve could’ve saved our miserable economy. no one understood business, marketing, society, education…as well as he. so if Obama’s best is a 1-2 liner, as he maybe believes more in Billy Gates of Hell or dull Michael Dell, who both are false heroes hailed as revolutionary genius by diluting & cheapening products, it’s not wonder our nation is at its worst in history & reaching hell financially & culturally & politically &…
