A new email from Tim Cook to Apple employees explains the company’s plans to take off the entire week of Thanksgiving in the United States:
Subject: Thanksgiving break
Team,
I consider it an honor to come to work every day alongside the most innovative and most dedicated people on earth. This is an extraordinary time to be at Apple, and it’s all made possible by your incredible efforts.
We’ve had a record-setting year so far and we’re heading into the holidays with the strongest product lineup in our history. Customers are absolutely in love with the iPad 2, and the amazing new iPhone 4S is off to the best start of any iPhone we’ve ever made. The Mac is soaring to new heights with OS X Lion, and on the eve of its 10th birthday, the iPod is still the world’s most popular music player.
In recognition of the hard work you’ve put in this year, we’re going to take some extra time off for Thanksgiving. We will shut down with pay on November 21, 22 and 23 so our teams can spend the entire week with their families and friends.
Of course, Retail and some other groups will need to work that week so we can continue to serve our customers. If you’re in one of these groups, please check with your manager about taking time off at a later date. Our international teams will schedule their three-day shutdowns this quarter at a time that’s best for them. Details will be available on AppleWeb.
I hope everyone enjoys this much deserved break.
Tim

Well deserved.
Well deserved indeed! Excellent move by the new CEO.
Already slacking off!
😉
hahaha
Let them rest those big brains of theirs.
Yes, it is hard to imagine that Jobs would allow this.
However, such measure actually might not really decrease the speed of progress, since Apple’s staff is probably overworked. More rest will help the do the job.
This has been annual recognition for the last four years. In fact, colloquially they were always referred to as “Steve Jobs Days”.
This is true. I think the only year they didn’t do it was right after the markets ass over tea kettles.
Good time for a break. Things (including iPhone 4S, iOS 5, iCloud, iTunes 10.5, Mac OS X 10.7.2) are now in place for the Holidays and probably at least the first two months of 2012. So far, Apple is “operating” quite smoothly with Tim Cook as CEO.
Let them rest, I agree ….. Recharge batteries and get ready for new ….
It is also a nice break for all to reflect and be with their families ….
It’s a great reward, especially since not a lot of work gets done that week anyway.
Now that’s a kool boss!
Change of guard. Let’s bathe in the champagne and rest on our laurels. The competition will never catch up…
That’s right, because in 3 days during Thanksgiving, Samsung WILL become the world’s new technology superpower!!
That’s really cool, but now.. Will all Cook’s emails to his team be made public ? I hope not… Don t really like Appleleaks…
It’s in the genes
Real Artists Sleep!!
Wait, how does it go?
Whoever leaked this Apple internal email from Tim should really worry about his or her job @ Apple, I assume Apple’s Global Security Team is already hard at work to weed out “bad apple” from within as we speak.
I hope the iCloud team does not get the break until the e-mail is running smoothly.
An Apple fan.
Nice! At least I get Thurs & Friday off where I work. Will take Wed as a one of my paid vacation days, just to stretch it a bit! Hope the weather is decent.
Next year, take all three. Nine days! I always regret not doing that, since I think the company will collapse if I’m not there 😛
What this means is that beyond a shadow of a doubt the quarterly report will be another blowout. No way in the world will they disappoint after giving everybody extra days off.
